Patriots: 20
Colts: 3
Although it seems that anyone who could potentially be reading this doesn't really care about football, I feel like writing about it. Be warned: as far as I know, this entry will not be about anything other than football.
What a spectacular game. All week analysts were wondering how the Patriots could even hope to slow down the infallible offense of the Colts. The phrase I heard the most was, "Peyton Manning will score touchdowns. You just have to limit the amount of time he has the ball so that he doesn't score too many." Well, first of all, they did limit the amount of time he had the football. The Patriots had the ball for 37 minutes and 43 seconds, while the Colts had it for 22 minutes and 17 seconds. Not only did they control the ball, they shut down the Colts offense. This was the first game this season that Indianapolis didn't score a touchdown. The Patriots had three drives that took up at least 7 minutes of clock time. Despite the score, the game wasn't anywhere near close.
I think there were two telling moments to the game. First was when they first cut to Foxboro and it was snowing. The Colts have gotten a bad rap about not being able to play in inclement weather (though I don't really believe it). However, all week (including 3 hours before the game), meteorologists predicted that the game would be played under clear skies. Cut to Foxboro, MA: snow showers. My first thought was, "Boy, it seems like no one who predicted anything about this game is gonna be right." And I was correct. The game was so similar to last year's AFC Championship game: snow showers and the Pats completely dominating the Colts on offense and defense.
The second telling moment was in the second(?) quarter, when Peyton Manning dumped off a screen pass to Dominic Rhodes. Tedy Bruschi made a great play to tackle him for a loss, but, as he was tackling Rhodes, Bruschi ripped the ball out of his hands and the Patriots got the ball back. It epitomized how physically overpowering the Pats were in that game.
So, in conclusion:
Colts: All talk, no game
Patriots: Too awesome for words
May all your dreams be wet.
