Disclaimer: just playing with the boys, they don't belong to me
Summary: Jack and Ennis grew up together and even went to the same college before moving back home to take over each family's business. They became roommates but that's all they were! Or, is it?
Note: Okay, there's a little bit of a love scene in this chapter and I am nervous about it. I'm not good at writing them, so bear with me. My friend, also known as the Love Scene Consultant, swears he will get back to me in time for the big bam boom, but we'll see...
Chapter Seventeen
Ennis put the Variety magazine back down on the table and picked up the Rolling Stone that was lying next to it.
Everyone at work was looking at him strangely. They weren't staring. The looks were more furtive, and they happened when they thought he wasn't aware of it.
For the third night in a row, it was past 6pm and Ennis hadn't left yet. He was avoiding Jack and had been ever since the night of the Big Revelation. When it did happen that they were in the same room at the same time, Ennis hugged Jack tenderly. But he wasn't ready to talk to him yet.
So he was staying late at work, eating dinner out and coming home late. Once he had fallen asleep on the couch watching TV. He'd awakened around 3 in the morning to find that the TV had been turned off and he was covered with that blue plaid flannel blanket Jack's mother had given him several years ago.
He'd felt like maybe he was remembering a soft kiss on the cheek as the blanket had been pulled to his shoulders but he wasn't sure.
Other than that, Jack had been leaving him alone, giving him space. And his friends at work had been giving him odd looks they thought he didn't see, as he drank coffee and flipped through magazines.
"You okay?" Joey asked as he flopped down into the chair next to him. "You seem like something's bothering you."
Ennis didn't answer.
"Is it relationship issues?" he asked. Ennis looked up. "Ohhhh. Who is it?" asked Joey with a grin. Ennis just looked at him in silence.
"Is it a girl you know from here?" Joey asked. Ennis looked away.
"Is it a boy?"
Still no answer, but Ennis looked at him briefly and started chewing a fingernail.
"Hmm ... well, you know where to find me if you want to talk!" Joey offered.
"I don't want to talk, Joey!" Ennis replied. "That's why I'm sitting here reading a magazine."
"Okay! I'll stop bothering you." Joey said, unruffled despite Ennis's annoyed look, and got up to head back toward the kitchen.

The next day, John strolled into Sun, Moon and Stars just as Jack was about to leave for lunch. Jack hadn't had any specific plans so he invited John to join him. They decided to head for Mahi Mahi's and when they got there, asked to be seated outside so they could see the ocean.
After they ordered, they got caught up on each other's lives and Jack filled John in on everything that had been happening with Ennis. He teared up a little as he described how tender Ennis had been each time they'd hugged lately and how much it means to think of them as falling in love as they grew up together. But he admitted that he was discouraged by Ennis's continued difficulty with dealing with it all.
Jack watched and listened to the waves as John processed what he had been telling him.
"Ooh, I just thought of something!" John said with a naughty gleam in his eye. "I think I know how you could help him." John suggested that Jack use Ennis's attraction to him as influence.
"If you guys both love each other, then I think eventually Ennis will realize he can't live without you. Flirting with him a little is just going to help move things along a little." John winked.
It took three days.
On the third morning of one of Ennis's tender hugs to Jack after he'd started appearing around the house in pajama bottoms only, Ennis pulled back, grinned at Jack and winked. "You're beautiful!" he said and kissed Jack's cheek. "Even when you're wearing a shirt!"
Jack blushed as Ennis slapped him on the butt, grabbed his keys and walked out the door.
The next morning, while Jack was measuring coffee, again wearing nothing but pajama bottoms, Ennis hugged him from behind and then, began to plant soft, slow kisses on his neck, on his shoulders, on his back.
Hands shaking, Jack hurriedly put down the coffee and gripped the edges of the kitchen counter to try to steady himself. Jack stared down at his hands, willing them to steady, and noticed that the sun, filtered a little by the blue curtains on the window at the kitchen sink, had turned them golden.
Right after a soft kiss and a lick at the base of his spine, Ennis straightened, pushed himself against Jack, wrapped his arms around him and began flicking his nipples.
"You are driving me crazy!" he whispered into Jack's ear. "You want me to fuck you don't you, Jack?" he asked, thrusting a little.
Jack shuddered and leaned back into Ennis's embrace. "I want us to do just about everything we can think of to do to each other!"
"Me, too!" Ennis admitted. He abandoned one nipple to slide a hand into Jack's pajamas. Ennis grabbed Jack's cock and began stroking it, flicking the tip a little.
"I want to slide into you and I also want to know what it would feel like if you were deep inside me!" Ennis told him. "I want to suck you dry! ... And I also want to feel your mouth close around me!" Ennis licked and then, sucked Jack's shoulder and Jack shuddered, thrust and came all over Ennis's hand and his own pajamas.
Ennis placed one last kiss in the middle of Jack's back, and while Jack leaned over the counter, breathing hard, recovering, Ennis washed his hands, grabbed his keys and left.
