Character info
Series/Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Character's Name: Cloud Strife
Character's Sex: Male
Character's Age: Seventeen
Canon point: Traveling to Nibelheim for that last ill-fated mission.
Abilities: As a grunt in the Shinra army Cloud isn't allowed that
supernatural strength the real SOLDIERs have running through their veins, thus he's just your average guy with combat training. He's an excellent marksman, as shown in saving Zack Fair in one of the SOLDIER's memories. He's gone through sword training and seems to show much more potential than the average troop. He's denied
Materia because of his status in the army, as it is rare, he knows a bit of first aid but is capable of using cure Materia if given the chance.
He doesn't hit like a ton of bricks but doesn't hesitate to charge in and get the job done. Immune to gravity, silence, stun and getting blown away off the map. He carries a knightstick at his side for close combat and peacekeeping while out on patrol. While weaker than his future and alternate universe counterparts (The original Final Fantasy VII, Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts, Dissidia and Dirge of Cerberus), he's still a force to be reckoned with. He doesn't back down out of a fight unless he's out cold or just cold.

Full CG RenderPersonality: Cloud is said to be the rain on Zack's parade, everything the SOLDIER wasn't. Calm, collected and seemingly disinterested on the outside, he's an honest person; though not always with himself. His past is the key to understanding why he is the way he is- the absence of father, utter lack of social interaction as a child and the constant disappointment he's put through.
As a child, he was never able to fit in. He sorely wanted to be that person everyone looked up to, idolized and flocked around. Cloud was never a loner by choice, but rather made the choice with his actions. Putting on a mature, adult persona, he was still only a brash young child, often bragging about himself and putting on airs. Only, it had the opposite effect, often driving people away and securing his place as the town's scapegoat. He only truly understood what it meant to be accepted later on in life.
Another changing point in Cloud's history, he's shown his impetuous nature after running off to Midgar to join SOLDIER. While a clever person, the smartest of people have little common sense. He hardly thinks of the consequences, but rather lives in the past and present. He charges in with a clear plan in mind but never a backup in case something goes wrong. Partially due to his rash nature, he never made it into SOLDIER. He's stubborn and comes off as a jerk sometimes with his short, snippy comments.
That being said, just because he doesn't think things through, doesn't mean he's a complete idiot. He isn't the most talkative person around a stranger, only offering bits of meaningful advice and giving out orders. His actions tend to speak louder than his words.
Cloud isn't a stranger to disappointment when it comes to relationships. While forming a bond with some people, he still keeps them at an arms length to avoid getting too close. The arrival of Zack and the subsequent attention the older male puts him through seems to normalize the simple country boy. He's able to put on a smile, laugh and even crack the occasional joke; generally letting his guard down and be the teenager he was. He's still shy by nature and awkward, often covering his own embarrassments with dry humor. He's dedicated, loyal and will always be there when a friend is compromised.
Despite not making it to the hero status he wanted, he's a hard worker, always striving to do his absolute best. He's excellent at what he does, disciplined and follows orders accordingly.
Cloud isn't one to show much feeling, he carries a lot of insecurities and has stoic approach. He's built a wall around himself over the years to hide just how vulnerable he really is, often making his motives or thoughts hard to guess. At first glance, he looks like he's never smiled a day in his life and he probably hasn't unless your name is Zack. Whether he's happy, sad or just plain annoyed, his expressive eyes say it all if you know what to look for.
Overall, Cloud's just your average country boy with big ideals; fighting to protect to those he loves and prove himself to his own doubtful heart.
Samples
Action/Journal Sample: [Show off. Of course he was thinking it but he was also getting a lot of good pointers from the man, as he sliced his way through the herd of bird-like monsters.
He felt it before he heard it, the wings kicking up the wind quite a bit on the mountain. It looked like Zack was so busy showing off he didn't even notice the Hippogriff that just landed behind him- with a little quick thinking, he took out his rifle and pointed it towards the SOLDIER.]
Zack, get down!
[As soon as the man was down, he made short work of the monster with a few well aimed rounds. He, Cloud Strife, grunt in the army just saved Zack from getting one nasty wound. If that wasn't going to put a cocky smile on his face, what was?
He slings the still warm rifle over his shoulder and takes off his helmet to rest under his arm.]
Glad to be of help.
RP Sample: With his head between his knees, every passing bump and jolt of the truck made his stomach churn. He vaguely heard the voices in the background. The combined efforts of his sinking thoughts over returning to Nibelheim and his stomach on edge, he really didn't care what they were talking about. Not even Zack's cheerful demeanor could perk him up. He hoped this truck would run itself right off the cliff to save him from the miserable embarrassment sure to come.
He felt the presence behind him and someone asked if he needed a bucket. "Very funny, Zack." Funny, indeed. When asked if he was nervous, he thought about it a few long moments. Of course he was nervous, he failed in every possible way. No- he couldn't reveal himself to anyone. Without the bravado and rank of a SOLDIER, he was no one to this town. "Yeah."
He took a shaky breath and filled his lungs with the stagnant air that came in from the vents, as if being a complete loser to your town wasn't enough, your hero was sitting just across the way studying you. He felt like a failed test subject, looked and overlooked. Cloud wasn't worth Sephiroth's time but there he was making a fool out of himself for not being able to over-come a little motion sickness. The hand on his back rubbed soothing circles, firm but gentle, friendly and familiar. The last thing the blond wanted was to be babied but he made no effort to shove the hand away.
Then he felt a tug on his boot. Something dark, shadowed and he could've sworn two bright yellow eyes were staring up at him like beacons in the dark. "H-hey.." He started, recoiling only to be pulled back. "Zack!" His shouts fell on deaf ears as the bottom of the truck slowly disappeared to make way for the void that pulled him in. This had to be some sort of dream but it felt as real as the stifling darkness around him.
When he awoke, there was someone or something hovering over him, his eyes slowly came into focus. What had happened? He didn't black out again, did he? How embarrassing. "Where-"
His question remained unanswered as the being watched him get to his feet. Satisfied Cloud wasn't going to fall over, the moogle held the communicator out to him, "Here, Kupo!"
"What's this for?" Any minute now reveille was going to play over the loudspeakers. He'd hit his head on the top bunk like he always did, scramble out of bed and why was that creature shaking it's head at him?
"I'm dreaming." That earned him another shake of the head, "Where am I?" This didn't look like Nibelheim. Where were Zack and the others?
