I just have to say that my Metal Art class is making me really happy. I finished my first project, got a decent grade, and my teacher wants to see it when I finish the non-graded parts (let's just say, maille is involved! But I lost my mandrels, so it might be on hold until I get replacements.)
I also have to say that, after listening to the rest of the class discuss our ideas for the next project, I noticed something really different between PSU and WCU art students: concept. So many people had such complex, conceptual ideas and.... I just don't get it. I'm not a very conceptual artist. I'll make my statement in what I consider the most appropriate way, and... that's it. No subtleties in how many stripes or the exact placement of this or that or symbols or whatever. Maybe that makes me too simplistic for the 'real' art world, but... well, I guess that's a challenge I'll have to face. I dunno, I just remember one project in particular where it felt to me like there was too much concept; too much thought put in it. Maybe it's because I don't think art should involve that much thought to decipher its meaning. If a piece is SO complicated that you need to have studied art extensivly to get it, then I don't think you're doing something right. Or maybe its just about who you're making your art for.... ?
