(Blaine’s POV)
It’s the first warm spring day that they’ve had since April began and him and Kurt are taking advantage of the fact that it’s the weekend and they both have nothing to do by having a picnic in Central Park under their tree. The tree that was exactly halfway between where Kurt would enter the park and Blaine would during those first two years that they were separated by their campuses. Where two years ago Blaine got down on one knee on their sixth anniversary and proposed to Kurt and where eight months later they got married underneath it’s branches in the cool November air. They’re laughing and joking with each other as Kurt tosses grapes into Blaine’s mouth and Blaine feeds Kurt slices of apple and he can’t think of a better moment to share with his husband.
“Excuse me.” A voice says from behind them and they both turn to see a man with russet colored hair and thick black square glasses holding onto a dog leash standing there. He looks nervous and vaguely familiar to Blaine but he’s not sure where he’s seen him before.
“Yes?” He hears Kurt ask beside him and he can feel his husband’s hand tense in his own.
“You’re Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson right?” The red haired man asks and Blaine looks at Kurt then as they share a quizzical look.
“Technically it’s Blaine and Kurt Hummel-Anderson yes but that’s us.” Blaine finally says and he notices a spark in the man’s eye when he does. This seems to have taken any nerves the other man had before away as he begins to speak again.
“I’m sorry for interrupting and this is probably going to sound very odd and weird to you two but I just I wanted to thank you.” The man rushes out and Blaine blinks at him and exchanges a look of wonder with Kurt as the man still stands there.
“For what?” Kurt finally asks.
“You probably don’t know me at all but I went to McKinley I was a freshman when you were a senior and you two…you gave me hope that things could be ok one day. That I would be ok one day and I just I was walking mine and my fiancé Simon’s dog and I saw you two over here and I thought it was you two and I just I had to say something. Because without you two I never would’ve felt like I deserved to have someone like Simon in my life and I never would’ve been given the strength to come out in high school.” The other man says and Blaine doesn’t even know this man’s name but he feels the emotions swirling up inside of him. He doesn’t remember him, or anyone else coming out while he was at McKinley so he guesses it must’ve happened in the following two years at some point after he’d graduated.
“Oh that…I kind of don’t know what to say to that because there aren’t really words and trust me surrendering me speechless is an accomplishment.” Kurt says next to him and Blaine nods worried that if he does speak the words will get caught in his throat.
“I guess that’s a good thing then, I’ll let you two get back to your picnic I just I’m happy to see you two made.” He says before turning and walking away without ever giving Kurt or Blaine his name. They sit there for a few more minutes in stunned silence but soon Blaine starts to laugh softly and Kurt joins in with him and they both know exactly what the other is feeling in that moment. It’s a joy that they can’t put into words but both feel it in the air around them and Blaine just kisses Kurt happy in the knowledge that they really have left their mark on the world.
