I may have a new favorite lyricist, I spent a fair bit of today listening to "Have One On Me", I must've listened to "The Good Intentions Paving Co." a dozen time, and Joanna Newsom won me over with the following gem:
"A road too long to mention, Lord It's something to see
Laid down by the good intentions paving company "
Cute! I also note that "Have One On Me" is not only far more accessible (which makes it a good starting point for me to get into her work a bit more closely) but her singing is significantly improved (she always claimed it was just her style but, really, if your so-called style includes that fantastic element of "inability to carry tune in bucket" you may want to consider changing it. Her voice is still extremely unique, it's absolutely definitely undoubtedly her singing, only now she can pitch. Huzzah!)
