A while ago I realised that what I like about musicianship (as opposed to music!) is 'making noises I like', which may seem a ridiculous and obvious oversimplification, but to anyone who had some classical education before understanding the desire to make music is actually quite the epiphany, since you spend so much time on 'what music means' and the like - useful concepts, that I admire - but they obscure that basic 'sounds I like' thing, which any child with a rubber band and things to stretch it between, or a saucepan lid for that matter, knows EVERYTHING about.
To that end I am strongly tempted to put a classified ad up somewhere that reads "Incompetent musician (guitarist) seeks similar for terrible band. We could make noises." or something similar. Because, seriously, all this damn music - from blipcore to Handl - breaks down to 'making noises I like', and why mess with that?
