I live in the back of my garage.

In over 7 years of riding mopeds I have never sold a moped. I have compiled a collection of approximately 14 mopeds. But this week.... this week I sold my very first moped ever. a JAWA. Traditionally, I have accumulated every moped I could get my hands on. Now with the move and seeing how much shit I own, I suddenly realized, and it was a revelation of sorts, that I don't need this many bikes, or that many boxes of parts. Because really it is just shit I own, not really shit I use. That having them is cool, and most of my bikes are kind of one off slightly weird models, or rare engines that are difficult to find parts for, is not necessarily a reason to hold them within my possession. I have always been conflicted on if I could sell a bike to someone, knowing that it might be a little fidgety, the wiring has been hacked, and that if a part breaks they might have a difficult time procuring another. But then I realized that is not my problem once the bike is out of my hands. The most specific point of selling it is to get it out of my hands. I have managed to keep them running, so then can anyone.
The second bike I have chosen to sell is a 78 Batavus Regency. I have owned this bike for about 5 years, and have ridden it very far, on many occasions. It has cut me, burned me, broken down on me, and taken me to and fro. I am comfortable selling this bike because I feel that it has the potential to be a very reliable moped. I also have about 4 parts motors that would help the next owner to continue the life of this bike. I will miss this bike.
The bond I have formed with my mopeds is another factor that makes it difficult to release a bike to another. I have labored over keeping them running, sometimes in the most dire of times, and I do not want to see someone else rip it apart or change it so drastically from what it was for me for so long. But alas, sometimes one must say goodbye to the past, and allow for a change to infiltrate and bring the new.
So I have sold somethings. And I have chosen to sale some more items, in an effort to not only give me more space, but also to fund some projects I have had that have not progressed for a long time.
I am looking forward to the future of fascinating new moped adventures with science, technology and travel..
