Life and Times of Trailer 1
Today was just one of those very memorable days. My kids were overall very well behaved, but still had the Friday gitters.
4th period (during study hall) we watched sports center and discussed why Rodriguez is so ridiculous and why college basketball is better than NBA, although NBA is fun to watch. As the bell rang indicated the beginning of the actual class, they insisted we finish watching Shaq's top 10 moments in NBA history before I shut it off.
Sixth period, some of my guys were talking, so I went to go see that they were at least on task. They were discussing the teacher before me (the one I replaced). The conversation went something like this:
Nick: Man, I can't believe she just dipped on us!
Me: She needed some time.
Nick: Ms. Korman, would you ever dip on us?
Me: Not without a very, very good reason, no I would never dip on you.
Will: Yeah, if you dip on us I'll tell your dad! (he used to play basketball for my dad)
Me: Okay Will, you can tattle on me if I dip.
Nick: yay, Ms. Korman is not dipping! Ms. Korman, pound it! (and extends his fist for the ceremonial "pound")
7th period is a constant class, so we meet every day. Today, I was planning on letting them have a "catch up" day (just let them work on their homework and any make up work they need to do), but when the kids starting filing in, one asked "Ms. Korman, can we have a catch up day?" So I figured, let them think I am throwing them a bone....
I told them they need to make a compelling list of reasons as to why I should let them have a catch up day, and have one spokesperson present their case, and I would consider. The list included 11 reasons which were as follows....
1. It's Friday
2. It's Andy's sweet 16
3. We have a lot due on Monday
4. We are very welbehaved ;) (yes, they even wrote the winky face on the board)
5. Floey is behind in her reading (Flo is one of my students)
6. Lila is sick
7. You are beautiful
8. We are your favorite class
9. We promise we will work
10. We noticed you did something different with your hair (straightened it)
11. You love us!
With arguments like that, how could you refuse such a request?!
