We've been having problems as of late with tenants in my building smoking right in front of the entrances. As a former smoker (10 weeks smoke free, today), I can appreciate the annoyance of going outside during cold weather and trying to stay close to the doors fo a little more protection from the elements. Unfortunately, several non-smoking tenants have complained about having to walk through a haze of smoke when they enter the building, which I can also appreciate.
We have signs posted which people tend to ignore and, heaven forbid, you ask them to move away. They give you a dirty look and reluctantly saunter away but as soon as your back is turned, they're right in there again. So I decided to give my old buddy (and former supervisor) a call to see how they managed to deal with the problem at my old building. He gives me some tips as to what they did and still have to do. Persistence is the key.
Now we move onto the real meat and potatos...
Then Danny asks me what company I'm working for now in order to see if he can offer me a job. (??)
So he tells me, Purolator is looking for loss prevention officers for one of their locations. $13/hr with regular "cost of living" increases. Basically it involves monitoring cctv camera systems, dispatching alarm calls and some minor patrols. Rotating schedule but it's generally Monday to Friday with holidays off. So Danny's going to talk to his roommate, Billy (another former co-worker) whos going to get me an application and some info and then he'll give me a call so we can meet for coffee and I can pick up the documents.
And no licence driver's required for this particular position.
I don't want to get my hopes up but I think with my work experience I could have a decent shot at this. I'll keep you posted.
