R-R-R-R-Rusticated!

Continued, so I can be back at the top of your Flist...

Monday afternoon, I thought I had a test, so I spent a little while with Luke going through it, before we headed off to meet the tutors and stuff. Actually, we didn't have a test that day, it was scheduled for wednesday instead, so after finding out that I have Glenys as my personal tutor, I headed off to Speed Meeting Round 1. This is essentially speed dating without the dating. The older students posed questions to get us talking, although most of them were shite and the talking was often about how crap people were at moving round, how bad the questions where, or the obligatory name/course/accomodation?

At 6:30, all dressed up in suit and tie, and feeling a little bit sick with what might've been fresher's flu, I headed off for the first of our formal dinners... This one organised by the JCR. I couldn't eat much of the food due to feeling ill, but it was really nice. I met a few new people, including Pip, who I'd played some MK:DS with earlier in the JCR. I went for a lie down at like 8:30, and then at 10 came back to the JCR to see what was going on... Sat with Mark for like an hour and a half, while northern chris, and then first year rep Jason were telling stories and whatever. I planned to go to sleep at like 11:30, which was really lame, but as I got down to the basement, Paul, Ollie and Tom were sitting around chatting, so I joined them, as did James, and we stayed up chatting about whatever till like 1:30. Much of this talk was about our mystery roomie, who in the end turned out not to be the rusticated 4th year... I will now tell what I know of his story...

Two years ago, a physicist in his 3rd year was rumoured to have done several things, including installing cameras in showers, but his main offence was that he was sending lots of threatening letters to animal right's people, notably saying that for every protestor in Oxford, he would personally kill 1 puppy... So St hugh's was put on the ALF black list... So we had to get police protection for a year... And now he's back, so, we might look out for him...

Anyway, isn't rusticated such a good word? Other people who have been rusticated are in the paper... One guy at lincoln recorded his friends having sex through their window, and spreading it around. Apparently he climbed onto the window sill before he was noticed... And there was a big crowd. Also, another person who was rusticated and due to come back this year was found naked, stabbing himself in the chest, standing over a naked girl who he had stabbed over 200 times... Fun, no?

Anyway, Tuesday was more welfare talks, and a library induction in the morning. The fireman didn't turn up, so I didn't get to see the old video that Harriet saw... :(
Then I revised more for the test. About 10 people crammed into Delilah's room to do it though. It was cool. Then was the Hugh's fresher's fair. Here I signed up for rowing, ultimate frisbee, pudding soc, and then was bullied into rugby... I dunno if I wanna play it or not, but I'm tending towards no...

That evening we went to Ocean and Collins, which is a new club in Oxford, and is fairly nice. One guy set his jacket sleeve on fire by accident, like, proper in flames.
At like 11 they cleared the dance floor for some weired fire act. There was a guy with a big metal belt and two angle grinders, grinding his belt sending spark all over the place, notably into his chest. Two girls were dancing with fire sticks, and another had a fire whip. It was all very odd. There was also a guy with a big snake, and really tall policewomen/nurses on stilts...

Wednesday morning was the Union fresher's fair, where I signed up for even more things... Notably AnimeSoc, Harry Potter Soc and the Experimental Food Soc. Probably some other's that I wanted free stuff from, but have no actual interest in. Then I had my test, which after plenty of revision was really easy. Me and Chris caned our way through it. Dunno what we got, but easily above 95%.

Then at like 4 I left to go and meet up with Harriet, and went to see her room and stuff, which is much nicer than mine, and probably any at my college that I've seen. We just sat around and chatted and stuff for a little while, before I had to go get ready for SCR formal dinner. I sat with maths Chris and we both enjoyed pennying the new maths tutor and eating the wonderful food. Afterwards, I went down to the bar and just played pool for a little while with Paul, and the physics crew. Then I stayed up online till like 1am...

Thursday, being my birthday, was spent fairly modestly. Went to medical registration... Gave in my forms, then headed down to the lodge with my bike, in the wet, to head down to the boathouse... for ROWING. I HAVE ROWED AT OXFORD, that's super leet. But yeah, free lunch + rowing = fun. But then, I had a little proof class at 3, so me Chris and Luke W had to cane it back all the way across town on our bikes to get back in time... Anyway,I made a good first impression by answering the first question on the board, so, that's good.

I went for a walk down to the Ox union afterwards, which took forever to find, but when we got there it's really nice. And the union bar is pound a pint from 5:30 till 8. And they have really good nights it seems. Anyway, in the evening I went down the bar and met another guy from up north, and had a chat with him... I forget his name though... maybe it's Nick..?

Then we went down to Filth, which is a club in a shopping center. The music was pretty good all night. Started off dancey, went a bit indie, and kinda cheesey, and back to dance, and then indie again cos Claire was invited up to DJ for a bit. Just after I'd headed onto the dance floor, Prav, Claire, my mum Georgina and a load of other second years came up to me and Prav goes "BARRY!!!! It's your birthday!?" And I was like "Yeah..." and then they all like tackled hugged me at once... I think this like 3rd year Bernard told them, cos I'd told him at the bar earlier. (Bar service was crap btw) Then all night Prav kept saying my name a lot and pointing me out... It was weird. But yeah I stayed out very late, dancing with all the 2nd year maths students. Was well fun.

This morning I stayed in bed till 12ish. Then I went to CU free lunch, mostly to meet Mark, but also had myself a cheese baguette, then we went to the bank, and the union, then the university museum for induction talk... Now I am back home, in my room, preparing for maths Pizza hut trip, then pub crawl, and maybe a trip to G&Ds :D

Anyway, This weekend I'll probably see about going to visit Harriet again, cooking some sunday lunch unless I'm busy (which I think I might be), and doing my problem sheets...Then Monday is union pub crawl, so, yeah... Good thing I dont start till like 11 on Tuesday...

Hope you're all having fun too... Maybe I'll do you guys some pictures maybe.
Also thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, mainly Kevin and Spring who sent me cards <3.
