Habitat Updates

First off, George lost his first scute! Yay! His carapace is pyramided, which I think means that he's not shed in a while, leaving his scutes to stack up under each other. The shed scute was rounded and Frank's carapace is smooth, so it's not Frank's. *happy*

Also, I was reading about tanks and where to put them. I can't keep the turtles in the 30 gallon for long, and if they're both female, which it looks like they are, they could grow up to a foot long a piece. Lending itself to needing a much, much bigger tank. Like, a 125 gal. I could get away with a 75, but if I can get a bigger size for cheap, go for it. A 90 gal (I think) is just a a tall 75.

Now, the long shelves I've got now hang on to a couple vertical metal bars -- they're easily removable and can be placed just about anywhere on the bars. The wall they're on is about nine feet long and, I'd assume, a support wall -- there's nothing but dead space on the other side thanks to a two and a half story open-thing over the foyer. Supporting walls are what you want to place a super heavy tank like a 125 gallon against.

Now remember those shelves I was talking about the other day, the ones from Target? The more I think about it, the more I want to get them. They can go on the door-wall and instead of placing the 30 gal there, I can easily move all the stuff off of my bottom two, even three long shelves and put it on the new ones. That would leave me enough room for the 125 gallon tank, with stand, if I do a little rearranging. There are a couple full kits on Craigslist (tank, stand, lights, filter, heater, + decoration) ranging between $200-300. That's a very smart deal. I've got to talk to my parents about it first, but I think this could work.

And it would be getting my room cleaned in the process, which is sure to make Mom happy.

Valiant: I took out the hairgrass -- his fins keeps getting ripped up and it's not him biting them. I've got him on a treatment of Melafix (again), and if his tail ends up shredding more, I'll be taking the driftwood out and go back to the riverstone arrangement.

Also, gotta compare prices first, but the Wal-Mart by the mall has, quite surprisingly, a -very- clean and well kept fish section. And they're stocking huge Amazon swords for something like $5. If I get some there, I'll probably get a second plant for Jessica and her black Moor goldfish.

PS. My pelts should have been shipped out yesterday. They should be arriving here Wednesday. :E
