Mangoes

The thing I've always loved about days off work is my spectacular ability to do absolutely nothing. And I don't just mean doing nothing of any 'value' here. I mean truly going hours without having done a thing.

Unpacking is slowly but surely progressing forwards, and the majority of what I have left to tackle is jeans - largely a case of finally throwing out all the ones with big holes where the crotch should be - and the Wii. I'm not entirely certain how I've survived a whole week with it lurking in the bottom of a large plastic box, but I guess my continued progress through Fullmetal Alchemist has helped distract me.

Being back at the libraries I'm finding myself constantly distracted by shiny looking books so I've taken a temporary hiatus from the backlog of Richard & Judy books to read some other fun stuff. A Case of Exploding Mangoes was my first venture into trusting the recommendations of Radio 5 and I rather liked it as a book, but I can't say I could particularly see the comparison with Catch-22 or a lot of the other subtext that they were waffling on about in the podcast. What Was Lost, on the other hand, was a truly compelling read and I'd fully agree with most of the reviews plastered on the cover and inside pages.

Today's workplace du jour was Dogsthorpe, which meant a quiet morning followed by a pleasantly busy afternoon. Since I wasn't too dead from the shift I went swimming straight from work and made the realisation that my time spent in the pool is directly equivalent to the number of attractive people also swimming in the lanes. The day it was just me and the really fat guy I happily gave up at the first sign of my body crying out that it needed rest and calories or it might die. Today, I must have pushed on for at least an extra 10 minutes after that threshold was reached.

Shallow? Most definitely. But if this method helps me get fitter quicker I'm not going to fault it.
