Despite not playing cards games anymore, I'm still quite the geek. Neal convinced me to play his new Star Wars d20 game despite my own misgivings about it. Even back when I was interested in role-playing I was never very hot on the d20 gaming system. Jackie has agreed to play with us along with April, so we'll see what happens. I personally think Jackie and I will be totally miserable playing, but I won't go in with sort of attitude. Negative feelings breed negative results, after all.
Sunday, I went to the barbecue with Ashley. It's not really a long drive to Columbia from Augusta, but still its long enough to know if one of the two of you are going to start to annoy the other. Which didn't happen, thankfully. Once we arrived her mother introduced us around, then of course started to give me the drill. "How have you been?" "What are you doing with yourself now?" "What are your plans for the future?" You know... standard parental questions of anyone dating their child. It was a little more intense because when Ash and I dated before her mother actually liked me. After eating we left to head back to Augusta, dropping me off at home so I could head out with my friends that night.
Because of Memorial Day, Jackie, Julie, and myself went out to a party at this club named Saints we got invited to attend by Dianne. No cover charge and $2 for Jager Bombs or Domestic/Import bottles was a little hard to argue with when you're looking for a good time. I tried to convince Ashley to come along, but she's still a little uncomfortable with meeting my friends. Her lose, cause we had a fantastic time. After some dancing on the floor Jackie seemed to be a little out of it. Jackie and I drank way too much, but despite that she calls me a lightweight she was the one who hurled. After she finally cooled off we decided it was time to go, Julie being the only one of us sober enough to drive.
The next day I went out with Jackie again, this time to Neal's for character creation. Mike Damour showed up shortly after that and we got down with the dice. We finished up in about an hour, leaving everything but our character's personal appearance accounted for. This will probably be the most fun for Jackie and myself, since we're both character artists.
I got the word on my car this morning- the linkage cable did indeed break. Hopefully, they'll have it fixed by this afternoon and I can get back on the road. I'd really like to head over to Evans and see Ash tonight, but that's not happening without a car. It was nice enough of her to give me a ride to class this morning, but it might be stretching to ask her to do it again considering she still has tons of case work to do.
In the theatre this month, "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" I enjoyed but it really deviated from the books. "Be Cool" was good but basically the same movie as the original, "Get Shorty." "Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith" was good despite having abhorrent dialogue. Nothing much in music this month either, the new NIN was a bit of a let down. "With Teeth" has two major problems: 1) almost all the tracks sound the same and 2) it's not incredibly creative. I honestly expected more from Trent Reznor.
