More on Make-A-Wish

Well, I talked to the Make-A-Wish people. I don't really blame them, since they're not medical doctors and they don't make medical determinations. I'm not sure why Dr. Breech checked off that Victoria wasn't medically eligible for their program, so I guess I'll talk to her in November.

Seems to me that a child that has endure 30+ surgeries, has two kidneys that don't function at 100%, who has to cathe every four hours through her belly button to empty her bladder, who has to do an enema every night through a hole in her side to empty her bowel, and who just went through a 9.5 hour surgery to unblock her cervix so she could have her period just MIGHT deserve a wish.

Again, I don't blame Make-A-Wish, and certainly their gifts are beyond reproach. But since the criteria isn't that an illness has to be "life-threatening" but instead fall under the heading of "chronic", how is what Victoria goes through not chronic?

The definition of chronic in one dictionary is as follows: "a condition that is long-term or permanent, as opposed to acute, and which needs to be managed on a long-term basis."

Well, that's pretty much her. I'm really just disappointed in her doctor at the moment, which sucks, because I was absolutely loving her before. Not that I think any less of her medical skills, but I wonder if some of her...oh fiddlesticks. I don't want to go there. Make-A-Wish said we can have the doctor resubmit or we can have it go to a different doctor. Since Dr. Breech has only recently been seeing Victoria and only for her gynecological(sp?) issues, maybe Dr. Alam (urological/kidneys) or Dr. Pena (colorectal) might be a better fit.

Anyway, Victoria is handling this better than I am. Maybe because I'm the mom, and maybe because she feels like I can 'fix' it. I sure hope I can.
