the above article talks about infants in africa dying because their HIV+ mothers were instructed to formula feed to reduce the likelihood of transmitting HIV through breastmilk. but due to contaminated water and unsanitary conditions hoards of babies have been dying from diseases that breastfeeding protects against, like pnemonia and diarrhea. not to mention the fact that even though they were promised free formula the supply was not constant which led families to feed their babes straight cow or goat milk.
