Octavia Butler, 1947-2006

This story doesn't seem to have hit the news yet, though it is mentioned on officialgaiman. She apparently died of a stroke yesterday. I met her once, at a Borders store in Pittsburgh. My strongest impressions were of the height, the wonderful voice, and the sharp mind.

What a loss.

Again, I'm sorry about this. I figured after her latest was published lasty year, we would be seeing more titles coming from her again. Damn.

What a shame. Her "Speech Sounds" short story changed my life when I was a teen.
