Well, almost over...

I hate to throw a little cold reality on things, but... W. is still in the White House for another 75 days.

Wait ... who?

... Oh yeah, we actually have a president now, don't we? Has anyone even seen the guy in the last year, or has he been hiding full-time, quietly carting gold out of Fort Knox bar by bar?

Naaah, there hasn't been any gold in Ft. Knox since Nixon took us off the gold standard. It mostly went to finance covert military ops.

What really worries me is that, even though Bush is now a lame duck, he doesn't have the election to worry about, and can exercise imperial powers without much fear. What will he do with the military over the next 75 days?

And...(sigh)...Prop 8 Passed natetg November 5 2008, 17:18:31 UTC
Linear approximation from Prop 22 (61% pass) to Prop 8 (55% pass) suggests that gay marriage will probably pass into law around 2016 or 2020 here in CA.

Final election-night update shows 52.2-47.8. Hopefully by 2016 ...

Huh - interesting. This argument was made before the election, and the numbers were almost exactly on the nose.

This is Quite Fast, Really natetg November 5 2008, 21:00:25 UTC
With that number, we could see the "ban" lifted by 2012 since constitutional amendments are easy in CA. On a more positive note, homosexual legal marriage looks inevitable in California.

N.B. I'm not sure that 'man' and 'woman' can really be defined all that well, considering the power of modern medicine and things like androgen insensitivity syndrome.

I will be assured our national nightmare is over (and ironically, I used *THOSE EXACT WORDS* to my husband in discussing this :D) on 20 January 2009, once Barack Obama is safely inaugurated into office.

At this point, I *do* intend to break out in a party. (Hell, part of me wishes I could be in Washington for the inauguration, but tickets are probably way the hell out of my price range, unfortunately.)

JESUS FUCK FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A VERY LONG TIME I AM NOT ASHAMED TO BE A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES. :D

A very strange feeling, isn't it?
