Every now and then I get the feeling that people don't quite understand the phrase "the greatest thing since sliced bread." Normally I don't really care, but then somebody goes and
advertises it. The 'since' means after. For example, "color television is the greatest invention since the invention of sliced bread." It's a time marker. If sliced bread is the greatest invention then color television is the second greatest.
The shirt reading "Sliced Bread: An invention surpassed by nearly everything since 1928" should read "Sliced Bread: An invention nearly surpassed by everything since 1928."
Grammer, people. I don't care if you can apply it, but you had better be able to understand its subtleties.
