I've come across something weird, logical yet weird. in inkscape the zoom function increases in a srange way. It doesn't double, or increase by 50% every time. It zooms by a factor of the square root of two. Logically this makes sense if you want it to take two zoom clicks to double the size. I understand the whole exponential zoom, I just can't remember ever seeing it with a base of root two.
