Why is it called skinny dipping? We're not all skinny.

I might not like animals, but I do wish I had an owl of my own; a black one. Midnight black. Do they come in black? I would tie a tiny red bow around his little ankle. Possibly it has somehow developed from the World War II usage of the term "to get the skinny on (something)," which means the "naked truth."
