Well, it's maintainance day for WoW servers so I guess I'll update now.
Classes...are just that. Today in my Japanese class I ended up only being able to turn in about 50% of the homework that was due because I simply forgot about it. It's not that I just didn't do it, but when I was working on my homework I didn't realize I needed to do more than what I did. Since we don't have a real schedule that lists what assignments we are expected to do and when they're due, it makes it kinda hard (at least for me) to actually get everything done...like I can really remember which pages we're supposed to do when I'm worrying about studying kanji, vocab, writing a paper, and preparing a speech. Meh. It isn't really that bad though, I'm just bitter about suddenly becoming the guy in class who hasn't done the homework. Gambarimashou!
So I keep telling myself I will join a club, and I will, I just need to actually GO to one. In the US you can do alright without joining any clubs, but here in Japan or at least at Waseda, which is known for it's variety of clubs, you're kinda on your own if don't join one. I think the main reason for this is because students don't live on campus. After class everyone either does something with their club or they go back home or something...no one really "hangs out" it seems like. Of course, this has just been my experience. There ARE dorms that a few people live in, but even then they aren't really on campus...they're like 30min away (with the exception of a few maybe) and are dorms for whoever wants to live there...i.e., the people living there aren't necessarily and probably aren't from the same school. So again, rather than hanging out at the dorm, you go out with your friends from your club, etc. Another crappy thing abot the clubs is that they cost money...like $50 to join and a $10 due or something, both vary depending on which club you join. I think I may join the Go club since it's always seemed like an interesting game. I have no idea how to play though and that's after hearing someone explain the rules in English :\ though I wasn't really trying to learn at the time.
I've started playing this arcade game called Gigawing a lot lately since there's a place right up the street from the campus that has it...it's one of those 2-D shooter games with space ships. It's kinda old, but every game in the arcade is only 50yen to play, whereas every other arcade in Japan seems to charge at LEAST 100yen to play, often more than that. One of the cool things about it is that you can hold down shoot and you build up a barrier around you that reflects all the shots from an enemy for a few seconds...it's pretty nice for getting out of hairy situations, but that also means that the game is designed to have places where you HAVE to use the barrier in order to get by. So it gets rather difficult at times...and sucks away your money at the same time.
