MySpace generation and confusion

Feb 18, 2008 16:44

Damn you Interwebs!

Am at work right now, and got a message in my email saying someone posted a comment on MySpace...no big deal. Comment is some spam (Get your penis increased by 1,500 ringtones!), flick over to the profile that sent the comment and the phone rings.

Get done with phone conversation, and am sitting back for a moment, relaxing after throwing about a half-ton of boxes around for the last hour and enjoying some music.

Then I get really confused. I thought I was listening to Nothing Stays by Cyberaktif, but there's some fuzziness there that I don't recognize. And that voice...that sounds more like Marvin Gaye than Bill Leeb.

Holy shit, it IS Sexual Healing w/ music by the Skinny Puppy boys...is this some weird mashup I forgot I downloaded?

No, the MySpace page I left open had Sexual Healing playing in the background while iTunes was playing Nothing Stays.

Pigfuckers.

Moral of the story: MySpace is a cultural wasteland that provides more spam than any meaningful communications with people anymore. Time to delete my profile and reduce the amount of spam and webcam whores in my inbox.

As a side note, though....the unintentional mash-up did sorta work.
