"Dean, why are all the lights off?" He asked curiously with his head tilted and his eyes peering softly up at Dean as he came closer.
"Cause, it's better this way Cas, just the fire and..." he paused as he carefully sat down beside Castiel in front of the fire. Looking determinedly at the flames and not at Cas.
"... hot cocoa" he said with a small grin as he handed a mug over to the angel.
Castiel took the mug almost by instinct rather than actually wanting to and gave Dean a confused look.
"Cocoa?" he asked, staring into the mug at the steaming continence and looking at it like it had done him a personal wrong. He still didn't understand. Not any of it really. He wasn't unhappy, he liked being around Dean... a lot. Not that he would be admitting that to anyone anytime soon. But Dean didn't do this, he didn't call up just to have cocoa in front of a fire... at least not with him
"Dean, why did you ask me here? I thought you had something important to tell me?" He asked as he slowly sniffed at his mug. It smelt of chocolate and sugar and the steam was warm on his nose. He decided he liked the smell and it made him smile softly. His eyes moving from the fire to Dean's profile beside him. Because the man was staring at the fire and not looking at Cas.
"Yes cocoa, now stop asking questions Cas and just drink it. It's good I promise." Dean almost huffed in frustration at the behaviour of Cas. Though he knew it wasn't the angel's fault. Dean was acting weird... ok he was acting really fuckin' weird. He couldn't get it out of his head though that he really, really wanted to do this, spend Christmas eve alone with Cas. He wasn't sure why... oh hell, okay, yeah, he knew why. He just didn't know how to go about telling an angel of the lord you wanted to bone their pretty little brains out because some fucking how you'd managed to fall for them.
"What? I can't just want to spend Christmas with a friend?" he snapped a little louder than he meant to.
He looked over and saw the confused and somewhat... hurt expression on Cas' face and felt like a right asshat. great, nice work douche face, now you've upset the angel.
"Sorry Cas, look I just... thought it would be nice to spend some time together when we weren't worrying about the end of the world you know?" He looked at Cas, eyes pleading, hoping he'd understand.
"We still need to worry about the Apocalypse Dean, it is still not yet over" Castiel reminded him quietly. He had gotten little flutterings in his stomach when Dean had told him he'd wanted to just spend some time with him. And now he peered at the man, hopeful that maybe it meant something more than his logic would allow him to believe.

"Told ya" Dean smiled, ignoring Cas' reminder and drinking his own hot chocolate.
"Hey Cas, you warm enough?" he asked suddenly as he moved, putting down his mug to the side and maneuvering himself till he was sitting behind the angel. He pressed his chest against Cas' back, his long legs moving so they were on either side of Cas' crossed legs and he snaked his arms down and around Cas' waist pulling him till the angels head was resting against the side of his own. He let the warmth flow through him and allowed himself to believe for a moment that Cas wasn't about to freak out and disappear or yell or whatever.
"Better?" he couldn't stop himself from asking.
Castiel froze the moment he felt Dean's chest touch him and he couldn't move, or speak, or think... He could only feel. Feel Dean, close to him, holding him, touching him. A small gasp and them moan escaped Castiel as he allowed himself to relax back against Dean. His hands still on his mug. He couldn't even remember the question Dean had asked him. He wasn't even sure he could remember his own name right now though so that wasn't a big surprise.
He had no idea what was going on, just that he was glad it was. Why Dean was holding him like this... he just prayed it would continue.
"Better" he nodded dumbly in agreement... His head fell back onto Dean's shoulder and he closed his eyes, turning to nuzzle his head against Dean's neck.
"Dean why are you doing this?" he managed to whisper as he lifted his head and turned his face to Dean's. Which turned out to be much closer than Cas had been expecting. Dean's breath was warm on his lips and chin and it made him shiver.
"Because I want to" was all Dean said in reply before Castiel felt warm lips press gently against his own and he sighed into it. Pressing back tentatively not sure what to do but knowing he never wanted to stop.
"Oh" was all he managed to huff out when Dean pulled away way to soon in his opinion.
"That alright with you Cas?" Dean asked him, and Cas could tell Dean was scared now, nervous Cas wouldn't want him.
"Yes" Castiel whispered, though he must have sounded terrified. Because he could see the flash of protective determination that Dean always seemed to get when someone he cared about was afraid or in danger. Castiel's breath caught... did Dean care about him enough to feel protective over him to?
"I wouldn't hurt you you know that right Cas?" Dean asked voice still unsure. "I would never let anything hurt you. And heaven help them if someone tries." He all but growled the last part as he gently, loving, ran a hand along Castiel's hair line before cupping his face and kissing him again. It was deeper this time, Castiel felt the tip of Dean's tongue on his lips and felt his own open for Dean as if on instinct.
By the time it was over he was gasping for breath and his body trembled with what he could only decide was desire and he pressed his back harder against Dean's.
"I know Dean, it is why I trust you, why I love you" he said simply. There was no hesitation, no embarrassment at the omission and it struck Dean as so Cas it made him smile. A huge goofy grin that went straight to his eyes.
"I love you to, god knows how that happened but I do Cas" he murmured softly as he softly kissed the angel again.
"Merry Christmas Cas" Dean said softly.
"Merry Christmas Dean" came the muffled response as they continued to kiss and explore each other by the fire, cocoa now completely forgotten.
