I've taken my last sip of joy.

My writing, generally: I was thinking about all the fanfic I've written over the years (there's not much posted on this lj, but I had a sizeable body of work in my previous fandoms) and I realized that I am that writer that writes the same thing over and over--sometimes not even consciously! I mean, okay, I know I do film!noirs over and over, but it goes beyond that. Oz, for example, is almost exactly the same, conceptually, as a another love story I wrote in my previous fandom: they both feature two guys forced to live together in an isolated community, grappling with previous losses in their lives that makes them skittish about getting close to people. The previous story was set in a community by the beach, surrounded by mountains. Oz is ON a mountain. Haha, what the hell? Apparently, my dream romance is one in which forced roomies fall in love or something. Sheesh.

On the other hand, I think my writing has definitely improved since my last iteration of the 2 guys trapped together story, so, um. There's that.

Challenges: So there's a new challenge over at deancastiel called the Fusion Challenge. It's basically a huge crazy AU challenge with prompts and I love AU's that are basically original fic with characters heads pastede on yay! It also includes art, which is cool, and something I might do myself if any of the prompts get me going. There are already a million prompts posted in the comments already, which is cool, but oddly enough, none are really getting my writing engine moving. The Matrix!one is kind of interesting, but I don't know... Someone posted a film!noir prompt that I'm basically already writing, but that thing is going to be MASSIVE and no way am I going to be able to finish it by the challenge deadline. I'll have to pick something manageable that won't give me a heart attack around the due date.

I kind of want to do a dystopic revolutionary AU, wherein Dean is a borderline fanatical revolutionary free fighter and Castiel is this jaded junkie cyber hacking genius Dean has orders to recruit. At first Dean thinks Cas is just a washed up junkie loser, but then he comes to realize that Cas has a painful past that led him down this road. Eventually Cas joins the freedom fighting movement and sobers up, and he and Dean get together. Maybe I'll just wait for a prompt that I can sneak this idea into!

Also, apocabigbang is intriguing. Obviously, with a fandom like SPN where the apocalypse is upon us, it's pretty easy to meet the challenge requirements. I've never participated in a Big Bang challenge before, and ever since I churned out 10k words for my pinch hit for Renegade Angels in under 2 weeks, I feel like a Big Bang story is totally do-able for me. I'm also intrigued by the possibility of someone creating seriously cool art for my story (I'm an egomaniac, what can I say?). I've made graphics and art for my stories before, and maybe I will again someday--once I have more free time. I was pondering posting a map for Oz and possibly some sketches of building interiors and furniture but I don't know... we'll see.
