cross-geek experience - D&D and BSG

I'm currently playing a D&D campaign with my partner (DM) and some of her friends. The one friend is playing this wizard prodigy who has and inflated ego, tends to shy away from battle, and can be snarky and sarcastic. Many of the other players (in character) get really pissed at him, and become overly frustrated with with tone and actions, which makes for great role playing.

Last night we were in a pretty intense situation and his character decided he was going to desert the group fight without really telling us to get us, but mostly him since he was scared of battle, out of this teleported plane.

Of course we are all pissed at him (in character) and complaining and yelling at him so he tried to justify himself. He says out of game "Someone mentioned Battlestar Galactica (me!) and how good it is, so I started watching it. I realize that my character is basically Baltar." I laugh, realizing how true it is (wizard in that time frame=scientist now) and regretfully say "y'know, Baltar is my favorite character, and as much as I hate to admit it, I kind of really like your character now!"

It's amazing how one BSG reference can change my whole point of view!
