That puts out the fires here. With the observations I have made here so far, though, I wouldn't be surprised if this downpour led to some type of flood.

I wonder what this city looked like before this all.

You're in a limbo between life and death. You're both, and neither at the same time.

... Human religions know little of the truth.

How metaphysical.

You speak as if you are outside the human race. Are you, then?

All of life is a dream. Insubstantial, smoke and ashes. Everything is trapped between your perception and reality, space and time, and less so here, this cursed inbetween place, shadow world, mirrors and illusions. It's a disgrace, run by pitiful, grasping false gods.

The city was pathetic. Having been destroyed, there is potential for improvement.

That is...certainly an interesting view to take on life. Pessimistic, may I add. While I do not necessarily agree on that take on the living world, it seems to fit what I know of this place so far. I have yet to be here long enough to make any proper judgments, however, and I mean to observe longer before making any such assessments. I would rather avoid being transcendental about it all.

Realistic, rather. You will see. Or not. It may be beyond your grasp as well, as it seems to elude so many others.

Realism and pessimism do not always go hand in hand. In many occasions, yes, but believing that it is a constant tends to lead to a self-fulfilling prophecy, even if only of the mind.

The city .... looked ...

Ah, I didn't think I'd ever miss it, but ... it looked better than it does now. There were more standing buildings, and a huge forest. You can see some of the trees still.

Not many of them still stand. I can use my imagination, but even that only goes so far, as this place was already ablaze when I arrived.

Maybe I could draw you a picture? It was as dark and damp as it is now, though.

A picture? If you have the time, that would interest me.

Some people here have died, some haven't. I'm fairly certain I haven't.

On the subject of what the Church would think... well. Conflicts within the system have created divisions already, right? More than likely it'd just create another one.

What would be the point of those who are still living to be taken here?

What a division this would cause! A new religion entirely, perhaps. Only the name of Purgatory and the overall meaning bears any resemblance to the Christian Church.

The amusement of the gods, maybe. It's certainly not a new kind of idea.

... There's that, yes.

...Amusement.

However, there is no way for this to get back to the mortal world, unless--those who arrived here while still alive somehow are taken back. Even that, though, only entails one person's word against millennia of religion.

Yet religions have been founded on less, I suppose.
