Notes: AU
a/n: I wrote it after I heard someone tell me about the "Public Enemies" with Johnny Depp. This is probably the only film with him I haven't seen yet.
Beware: grammar and I are not the very best of friends. I'd rather not invite her to my birthday party. But comments... That's a whole different story. Of course I'd invite them , they are like presents themselves!
And I would like to thank
nocturndreamer for her support and the late-night talks!
So far that Autumn Thursday has been quite uneventful. He was yelled at just once and not by any of his few customers (which would bring a little bit of freshness) but by Siwon, his boss.
He simply hated that man.
Of course, when he started working in Choi Bank he had a crush on his employer - not for long though. He realised all this time he had been blinded by the way Siwon looked: handsome face, charismatic eyebrows and probably muscular body (some of female workers claimed they saw it). All this hid very well that his boss was a hypocrite Christian.
"He probably never heard of forgiveness and true love" thought Sungmin.
His break was going to end in five minutes so he quickly shoved the rest of his sandwich into his mouth and went to his desk to start mentally preparing. He never liked his work.
When his clock showed exactly noon he slowly reached to the sign on his desk and took it to put in the right drawer. He liked when it stood firmly in front of him, 'CLOSED' written in big bold letters but no, he had to start working.
He sat and started to pretend that he's looking for some papers but to say the truth he was quietly peering at other people.
His colleague had two clients - one was sitting in front of the desk and the other stood patiently in the queue. The first one was a young man, probably asking for a loan. The latter was quite fat but friendly-looking, not like those pigs Sungmin sometimes met at the bars, but the bank worker still frowned at what he saw.
"He may eat whatever he wants and whenever he wants and I'm going to starve for the next few hours. That's unfair!"
But a genuine smile graced his face when he spotted his own customer who has just walked to his desk.
"Hello, Ryeowook-shi, how may I help you?"every month this was the only situation in which Sungmin actually wanted to help someone. The fact that Kim Ryeowook always listened to his whining only made it better.
"It's always the same. This is the rate for this month" the small man took a quite big amount of money from his bag and gave them to Sungmin and then he also put the rest on the desk, "And this is for my account".
Sungmin started pretending that he was carefully counting the banknotes.
"Most of it goes to pay off the debt, right? How much do you have left?" he asked, already knowing the answer.
"Not much. I can still live." answered quickly Ryeowook, knowing that this was a usual introduction to their conversation, "So how was your day, Sungmin-shi?"
The bank worker was only waiting for that.
"You know my boss Siwon, right?" he didn't even wait for the other to answer or simply nod but carried on, starting complaining about his life.
Or rather intended to.
Eight men wearing black coats and black hats in one moment entered the bank. No one would spare them another look because black clothes were quite common BUT!
They had guns.
One of them shot twice to the ceiling.
"Lay down, everyone! Now, lay down!" another one yelled.
People were terrified, they quickly followed the robber's order.
"Who is in charge here?"
Siwon, trembling with fear, stood up.
"Where is the safe?"
"I won't tell you"
A loud gasp could be heard in the main hall.
"Does he want us get killed? I wanted to eat a roasted chicken tonight!" whispered the fat man, in half of his sentence saying out loud the thoughts of other people. He stopped when his head met the cold floor again as one of the robbers stepped on it. "Silence, stay still!" the robber pointed at Sungmin, "You! Why you're not on the floor?".
Sungmin couldn't answer. He wasn't able to. He couldn't even lift his finger from the money he had been counting, move any of his limbs; he was shocked. This was the first time in his life he saw a gun. He was petrified. He simply watched the weapon, not really registering anything that happened around him. His eyes were solely on that piece of metal. After ten seconds he finally managed to take his eyes off it.
"I-...I'm..." he stuttered but was cut by yet another man in black.
"Leave him to me" the yelling one quickly walked away to check other people and the leader (it was Sungmin's assumption since in his world one would take orders only from their boss) turned to the bank employee.
"You know where the safe is, right? And you know the code?" it was more like a statement than a question but Sungmin nodded nonetheless.
"Come with me then" they stopped by Sungmin's customer "Yesung, take care of this one" the leader ordered one of the scarier looking men.
Sungmin quietly leaded the robber to the room with the safe, not really caring about poor Ryeowook. Come on! He saw a real gun!

Ryeowook started to tremble when the robber walked to him. His eyes quickly darted to his money that Sungmin carelessly left on the desk. The man in black noticed that small move.
"Don't worry. We're not after your money. We take only what belongs to the banks."
That made nothing to calm Ryeowook down. He was shivering even harder. He didn't really hear what the man has said. It was more how he's said it. This voice, rough like silk and moreover eyes which were so dark and deep and...
"Stop it!"
And these eyebrows that were now very high...
"Oh shit! I didn't say it out loud, did I?"
And this graceful nod and this smile that was making the man even more handsome and...
"Too close, he's too close..."
Sniff, sniff.
Ryeowook snapped and looked up to see the face of the robber even closer than before.
"What do you think you're doing?" he asked, not liking people to take a sniff of him.
"You smell nice. Like cinnamon and tangerines"stated Yesung, "Why?"
"I baked some tangerine cookies this morning, so what?" the smaller man suddenly found himself brave enough to poke the robber, "Got a problem with that?"
Yesung swiftly grabbed Ryeowook's hand.
"I'm going to visit you in the near future, so beware" Ryeowook immediately regretted his behaviour, at the same time loving the feeling that appeared when the robber whispered to his ear, "I like tangerines, I like cakes, I like your scent and I like you" Yesung paused for a moment, while Ryeowook just stood there, trying to figure out with the little bit of his brain that was still working why the hell the man was staring somewhere under his nose.
"And I like your philtrum" stated proudly the robber and touched the space between the smaller man's nose and mouth.
If Ryeowook was shocked before, now his brain has completely shut off.

At Sungmin's

With trembling hands Sungmin started opening the safe.
"Tsk, tsk, some careless boss you have here to let others know the code..." smirked the robber. Sungmin murmured quietly something obscene about Siwon but the other man caught it and grinned, showing his pearl-white teeth what made him even more handsome. Not that Sungmin was looking, he just accidentally glanced at the good-looking robber. "And you're not the most loyal worker, are you?"
Sungmin huffed in annoyance but still continued his ministrations with the lock. After few more seconds the mechanism inside made a clicking sound and the door opened.
"Help yourself, Mr-"
"Mr. Cho you cute thing" the robber grinned again. Sungmin blushed (of course because he was angry not because of what the other said) and stepped aside. He wanted to watch the other do his work to have something to talk about but the man just stood there, staring at Sungmin.
"What are you waiting for, the police surely are half way here!" the bank worker cried.
The robber smirked. He wanted to laugh at the cute guy for being worried for him but what he said was true. "Where do you keep your bank's money?"
"On the left side, in the boxes. You don't want to take everything?" Sungmin asked because he thought that thieves would steal anything that shines (or anything that rustles like the paper banknotes).
"We never steal other people's things. We're just taking what has been stolen from us"
"I see" Sungmin nodded and looked outside the room just in time to see a running man in black.
"Police are here, we gotta run!" he shouted.
Then everything happened in a blink of an eye.

Out of the bank we go!
*
Sungmin was sitting in the back of a car, together with Ryeowook and the guy who previously stayed with his friend between them. His hands were tied. Just now they were used as living shields so the robbers could leave the building without being caught by the police. Thrilling experience, really.
And now he was quietly watching the robber's hand wandering on Ryeowook's thigh. And Ryeowook behaved as if he didn't have even a teeny tiny problem with it! Sungmin hardly could take his eyes away just to see the man he was with earlier stare at him through the rear mirror.
"L- look at the road, stupid!" he stuttered, making the latter smirk.
Ryeowook eventually turned his head away from the window, grabbed the robber's hand to stop its movement and smiled cutely. "But tell us, where are you driving us to?" he asked, widening his eyes and pouting. It definitely worked on his neighbour. Actually, it worked so well that the robber was unable to utter a word. The driving guy chuckled.
"Usually we stop in an empty dark alley, tie people up and throw them into the nearest trash cans" he said and his chuckle turned even more evil.
The two victims widened their eyes again.
"A trash can?"
The car stopped.
"Here we are, boys"
Sungmin began to move frantically in his seat to somehow get out of the car before the robbers but his acting only made Ryeowook more scared. They were pulled out form the vehicle and found themselves tied up together looking at the trash cans. Sungmin in fact closed his eyes so to not throw up. He felt someone's breath on his face.
"You're too cute, you know. You make us break the rules".
Sungmin felt a sharp tug on his neck (it really hurt!) and then...
Nothing happened.
The cars drove away and he was left with Ryeowook. Untied. Not in trash cans.
Sungmin slowly reached to his neck where his silver chain hurt his skin but the jewellery wasn't there.
"My necklace!" he shouter and turned to Ryeowook to star complaining about lying thieves, the latter however was spacing out, eyes glazed and lips mouthing something soundlessly.
"Ryeowook-shi! Ryeowook-shi!" Sungmin shook his friend and even went that far (he had to, if you asked) as slapping his cheeks. But Ryeowook instead of being angry simply turned to the bank worker with a dazzling smile on his face, flowers and unicorns flying from his orbs.
"He said we'll meet again"
"Who?"
"Yesung-shi"
"Who?"
"The handsome guy. Finally someone appreciates me"
Sungmin pouted. "I do too"
"You don't love me. You have never been to my pâtisserie"
"I have work"
"Not after what you pulled off in the bank" noticed Ryeowook.
Sungmin nodded.
"Maybe it's high time I visited you at your work place.
The confectioner smiled and patted his friend on the back.
"I think I need a cashier, you know" he said and took Sungmin's hand into his, "You know how to work with money, right?"
Sungmin nodded, this time happily. They shook hands.
