Today we were over at Jake's grandparents' (Papa's, and Mary the step-grandma's) house. Mary was showing us pictures of her recent trip to Florida. It is perhaps her greatest ambition in life to live in Florida. She travels there at least 4 or 5 times a year, and there's never been any question that the minute they retire, they'll be in a packed moving van headed south. Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World top her list of the greatest times a person can possibly have. I think she is in fact somehow a reincarnated Floridian, born and raised in Michigan but destined to return to her ancestral land one day: she's just a little too chilly here in Michigan, all the time. July isn't warm enough for her; she doesn't do air conditioning, it's just too cold. She keeps her house at a balmy 78 degrees or so, trying to simulate her natural environment as best she can. Two days ago I saw her in three layers of clothing because "there are fans at work."

She was talking about the weather in Florida on her trip, how warm it was, too warm for Papa's liking. I teased her about global warming, asking if she was sure she still wanted to move down there, what with hurricanes, the average temperature probably rising to 104 degrees there within a few years (my not-so-scientific projection), and the whole peninsula one day being underwater. She laughed all of this off, saying that everybody down there had a pool and a lanai patio enclosure anyway. (How that solves the problem of everything being underwater, not sure.) After the conversation, it occurred to me:

I'm going to LOL so much when Disney World is entirely underwater.
Not the people, of course, mind you, just Disney World and everything around it for 300 square miles.

We also visited a preschool open house today, liked it, and signed Jake up for the fall. It's a co-op style preschool, where a parent from each family helps out in some way, two or three times a month, which I like, in theory. I like the idea of being able to see what goes on there, see the teacher's style and how Jake interacts with the other kids, and getting to meet the other kids and parents. In reality, this also means I'll be inundated with 3-year-olds on some days. But I'm excited. This is something I've been looking forward to for Jake for awhile. He's totally thrilled, too. He wanted to start going right away.

Luke is almost 6 months now, and we're going to be starting some non-boob food for him any day now. I'm excited about that, too. New and different things; yay.
