Since a lot of people might not be familar with the characters from the Sengoku Basara series, here's what you might expect from some of the characters you'll see in Sengoku Basara X (Cross).
Date Masamune
Main character of the 1st Sengoku Basara. Usually fights with one sword in most of his attacks, but can use any number of his 6 swords to fight with. Most of his specials are pretty fast, but his range isn't so big compared to the other sword users. Can speak in Engrish whenever he wants to kick some ass. His retainer is Katakura Kojiro and is a NPC in SB2.
VA: Kazuya Nakai (Rorona Zoro in One Piece)

Date Masamune's long lasting rival. He's got a sense of justice going for him, and follows his Oyakata-sama (Takeda Shingen, who is not playable in SBX as of now) to whatever he orders. Unfortunately, the guy usually gets punched for arguing with Shingen for some comical results. Anyway, he's the central fire based character of the game and fights with two spears - most of his attacks are pretty standard, and not too special, IMO.
VA: Souichiro Hoshi (Keiichi Maebara in Higurashi and....Kira Yamoto from Gundam Seed).

Main character of Sengoku Basara 2. Laid back and a relaxed individual who loves to spend time at matsuris/festivals. He lives with Maeda Toshiie (his adopting uncle, also a playable character in both SB games) and wife Matsu (playable as well and is a summon fighter) but usually runs away from 'em for one reason or the other. He's got one of the larger weapons in the game (and uses it one-handed most of the time), and despite being a bit slow, he can outrange almost everyone in the cast.
VA: Masakazu Morita (Ichigo from Bleach)

Now here is one of the most fearsome (and awesome) characters of the series. Though his motives are similar to his real-life namesake, he uses more than a sword to beat the crap out of random soliders. Alongside that, he weilds a shotgun which he can use alongside with the sword to work on both long range and short range offense. Oh, that's not all - his massive cape can work as an attacking weapon as well, which is exhibited in some of his specials and his Basara (aka the supers of SB) attack (where he just slashes whoever's around him, then whacks 'em while swinging his cape wildly). Husband to Nou-hime (playable in SB, missing in SBX; weilds dual pistols).
VA: Norio Wakamoto (obviously, we all know what he voiced).

Basically, he's the 'very fast but dies quick' archetype of characters. He uses rapid, multi-hitting slash attacks and his elemental power is ice. Rival to Takeda Shingen, and has a fangirl ninja who serves him by the name of Kasuga (whom uses kunai in her attacks). Very much reminds one of another ice-weilding pretty boy from Bleach.
VA: Romi Paku (Edward Elric from FMA)

Aka the big elf (not really) w/ Tira's ringblade. Seriously though, his playstyle is odd - most of his attacks come from the energy he emits from the ring blade, so out of that you'll see some trap moves and general projectile mindgames aside from just waving that weapon of his around.
VA: Shigeru Nakahara (Andriod 17 from DBZ).

Now if you want a character with flair, Motochika's your man. A leader of a group of pirates, most of his attacks involve acrobatics with his anchor spear - such as swining by it from mid-air, to riding it as a surfboard to smother whoever comes in his way. Uses fire as an element, but not as much as Yukimura does.
VA: Ryuzo Ishino
Youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcP3kt4iwt8 Toyotomi Hideyoshi
The 2nd biggest character in the game, and the only one who doesn't use a weapon. Hideyoshi's gameplay in SB centered about grabbing whoever's in his way and tossing them with a powerful throw. Of course, you may think it's pretty much hard to use such a style when thousands of forces are coming at you, but seeing him in action shows otherwise; from dragging one solider to the ground and tossing them onto his hapless kin, to piledriving into a group of them. He also has a number of non-grapple moves to help him out, too. His retainer is Takenaka Hanbei, who was also first playable in SB2 - and uses a whipsword ala Ivy from Soul Calibur.
VA: Ryoutaro Okiayu (Byakuya Kuchiki from Bleach, Mitsui Hisashi from Slam Dunk)

Nobunaga Oda's younger sister and wife of Azai Nagamasa. She is a soft-spoken person who's basic weapon is a naginata - and an NPC in SB2. She, Nagamasa and Kojiro (Masamune's retainer) will first be playable in Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes which is coming out in a few months - but her playstyle seems to include a lot of juggles and a use of some dark energy (similar to the one Nobunaga uses) that can stun the opponents in place. At least, that's what the SB2 Heroes promo seems to exhibit.
VA: Mamiko Noto (Yakumo Tsukamoto from School Rumble, Matsuri Shihou from sola)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnYyqis8EUs Honda Tadakatsu
He definetely doesn't look like his real-life namesake, that's for sure. Honda here is represented as a hulking mass of iron who weilds an equally big spear. The spear's tip can be functioned into a drill for a number of his specials, which are VERY slow, but very damaging as well. Also has hyper armor, which means it's hard for him to flinch when you smack him around with any of your attacks. Though one thing remains from his real-life counterpart is that he is Tokugawa Ieyasu's retainer (NPC, also nothing like his real counterpart mainly because he's represented as a wuss).
VA: N/A. However, Ieyasu does speak during some of Tadakatsu's attacks, and he is voiced by Toru Okawa (Roy Mustang from FMA, the older Joesph Joestar in Capcom's JBA fighting game).
