I have now ventured to the world of mac

and while i am having fun with my IPad, i am not overly pleased with how Mac set it up. I really am trying to approach this with an open mind, but I do not feel they properly inform of a few things:

1) you need to have an additional computer. I have heard people talk about having this to replace getting a new laptop or desktop. it is not meant to stand alone.

2) that computer must have itunes. i recognize Mac is like this with most of its products, but i found it a little annoying that you cannot even turn the device on and play with it until you have synched it with a computer that has itunes. in fact, there are features you cannot change around unless you do it through itunes on an external comp.

3) you must enter full credit card info for any apps, even free ones. In a day where it is risky to put your CC info in too many places, this annoys me. My droid phone doesn't even have my CC info and i have a ton of free apps on there.

4) you cannot sort the apps store by "price". I appreciate this feature on droid and feel it would be useful on IPad. there also seems to be less free apps in general than on droid.

5) It displays "not charging" when plugged into any full power usb unless it is a Mac (which i do not have) though i noticed it is charging, it just may charge faster in a Mac. This is also not explained up front but is stated in the online info if you choose to read it.

6) doesn't seem to be theme options. i maybe just haven't discovered them yet, but i want to make mine look like the Hitchhiker's Guide and other than a "Don't Panic" lock screen, i can't seem to change much else. I am sad i cannot find a good image of the book when open to be my home screen, but i am still looking.

so, i know that i have a learning curve, not having ever used macs before. and i already enjoy what i have done with it (it is a nice piece of machinery). and it will be useful in upcoming projects and checking website updates and how they look for mac users. part of me wishes the PC world would make something this nice with the droid network. the little Samsung piece they released is smaller and just not as smooth as this.

so, my props to Mac on the machinery and OS running it. my disappointment that they have restrictions and unnecessary mandates in place. I am happy with the purchase (and i chose to buy it, not ordered by work), but i am not suddenly becoming a Mac fan.

now i just need to figure out why my emails seem to only have an Archive icon where the trash icon is in sub folders, and where the emails go when i archive them...
