OK, not home. that's a bit too out there, a bit too country for me.
but it did make for an adventure on Saturday, when we drove W on Highway 7 for 2.5 hours so i could fulfill my promise to Clara.
earlier this year, i am thinking Mother's Day weekend, Clara was goofing on the internet and found Clara City, MN. she asked if we could go there, and i said, "sure, sometime this summer."
last week i realized that last weekend was the last free weekend of the summer...my dear friend and her 6 month old daughter come from CT tomorrow for the weekend. next weekend Pete's aunt is having a big 80th BDay celebration, and then summer is over, as school starts August 30th for the kids.
so Saturday the kids, my mom, and i went to Clara City. we drove past many many many many many many cornfields with probably just as many soybean fields, as few cows in the pasture, a turkey farm, a chicken farm with a short stop in Cosmos for lunch. while eating, more than 100 motorcycles came from down the block and headed east on 7. don't think it had to do with Sturgis, but was maybe a ride/benefit.
i did warn Clara that Clara City was probably just a tiny town, with not tons to offer. "Family Living on the Edge of the Prairie" is their motto. cute. we drove through and headed out of town within minutes, and then saw a sign--WINERY. so we followed the signs and discovered the
Hinterland Vineyards, so we stopped and took advantage of a little tasting. i am trying to discover more reds that i like, so i was excited. even more excited when my mom bought me a bottle!
back into town and we found a great playground, which i am calling a 3-generation playground. there was the metal dome and a merry-go-round spinner thing, there was the next generation wood+metal structure, and the things our kids know, the primary color plastic structures.
next we stopped at the quilt shop after driving up and down a few of the streets and along the commercial area, with a final stop at the gas station for potties and ice cream before heading back east.
we will probably not make it back to Clara City, but i sure liked the Road Trip Adventure-ness of the day!
