[Carla has been doing some thinking, and some hitting the punching bag, and some writing letters. She's also been hitting a baseball. That's what she's just come back from doing-wearing a sports top and shorts.]

...What's up?

[Is that a flash of apprehension? Yeep]

Do you mind if we talk in person?

[She nods.] Not at all.

...Do I need to file a report or anything like that?

No. That's one of the things we need to talk about. Common room on level one work for you?

Sure thing.

[Carla is there, in uniform with her hair in a braid behind her trying...trying not to look like she was called in on the carpet.

Stildyne had basically talked to her, but she'd hit things and batted around a baseball and...she could do this.

She wasn't quitting.]

[Dick was already in the common room, sitting in one of the chairs in a pair of jeans and a black leather jacket over a blue t-shirt. He looked up as she entered and managed a sort of smile.]

Hi. I'm Dick. Sorry I didn't have a chance to introduce myself sooner.

[Okay. No uniform. No office. Just all...calm. Normal dressed.]

...Renaldi. [pause] Carla. Renaldi. James Bond introduction aside. [God. Good going Carla.]

[Is she still standing a little straight? Yep.]

[Dick just chuckles sympathetically, shaking his head slightly. It's sometimes hard for him to understand this kind of behavior, despite having been a young cop himself really not all that long ago.]

You can relax. I'm not your captain, and I'm not going to yell at you. I just want to talk.

[Carla...relaxes a hair. Just a hair. He talks like one of the guys but there's still that air of authority.

It's...enough to make her anxious. Breathing deep, she adjusts the badge on her chest]

...Sure. Can I sit?

[He is definitely asking why you're wearing the uniform around later. :V]

Yeah, of course.

[She sits and leans back]

Tell you the truth like, I expected to meet with the admiral again or like, another warden or have a team meeting or something. [her brow furrows] I didn't get a schedule or anything like that.

Alright, that's the first thing we need to talk about. This place isn't like a real prison. There's no schedule, very few rules on what goes on here, and the Admiral barely interferes with things. You're your own boss and the only thing you have to make sure you do is do right by your inmate. We don't really do team meetings and I am just another warden. There's nothing special about me that means you have to listen, I'm just hoping you do because I've been here for over a year and am pretty confident I know the ropes. You with me so far?

[Carla folds her hands on her lap]

...Bone head rookie move ahoy? [She can't laugh it off.] That guy who took me to the infirmary said you could handle it

[quick] I didn't think you couldn't! I'm not questioning anybody's abilities. Same team rules and all that, but like..I dunno the dude cold-cocked me. [firm] I don't let anyone I work with go into a potentially dangerous situation alone if I can help it.

[Dick just chuckles again, because while he does get that and appreciate the thought, it's definitely not a concern here.]

I appreciate that, honestly, and that's definitely an attitude we need around here. But that "dude" who cold clocked you was my inmate. His name is Rorschach, we generally get along okay and not to sound arrogant, but I can definitely handle him in a fight, which wasn't necessary in the first place. We talked about what happened.

[He sighs, trying to think of a good way to put this.] Carla, look. I know it's weird to wander around and run into criminals just going about their business, but you can't do things like use physical coercion or threaten to punish an inmate if they aren't doing anything wrong. That kind of behavior makes the inmates feel like the wardens aren't actually here to help them, and it reflects badly on us as a unit. Some inmates won't show restraint if you give them a reason to attack you, and believe me, Rorschach showed restraint.

[long pause] That was restraint?

[Her eyes widen, clearly impressed because-damn-before she looks down at her hands. She's quiet for a longer moment before she nods.]

...I'm sorry. To you and to him. Dude- [she snorts] the guy was giving me the stink eye and I tried to ignore it and then he moved forward and I guess...itchy trigger finger.

[frown] that's what they'd call it if you jumped from one department to another back...home. Adjusting's no excuse though. Not here. So much for being on the top of the game.

I know it's frustrating to hear, but you really can't act like a cop here. Not the way you're used to, anyway. There will be times where it'll come in handy, or you can do stuff that seems similar, but being a warden is a completely different job than being a cop, and the sooner you figure that out, the better.

[He maybe sounds like he knows what he's talking about a little here. Although lol replace cop with vigilante. :V]
