Okay, so I've been putting off replying to your comment so I could read your story, and I've been sitting in front of it for like, a half hour with my mouth open, trying to work something up.

The odd similarities, I am reveling in them. LOL. No, seriously, that's just weird. Meta-awareness Joker is my new favorite flavor of Joker.

And srs feminist discussion tiems! OKAY.

I can't decide whether a fem!Joker is a feminist or not. I have my Brenda Wayne batman and fem!Joker argue about it. Joker's like 'ooh Batsy, look at you go, propping up the capitalist patriarchy' and Batsy's like 'shut up Joker, you think you're off the grid? By becoming the antithesis of what a woman should be you're still describing your self oppositionally according to their system.'

First off--oooh! Is this one of the parts you haven't posted yet? *bounces*

Well, I definitely don't think my femJoker is a feminist. Before you get into propping up the capitalist patriarchy v. describing yourself oppositionally to a system you have to have intent. Male Joker doesn't seem to particularly care about his maleness, and my female Joker isn't really overly concerned with her femaleness, partly because of the whole multi-verse thing. She knows she's the Joker before she hits any other descriptor, and that's the part that matters to her.

She thinks it's funny and plays with the label a lot, though, which is part of what drives Bruce insane, because he can see that she's not. Kind of like how the tabloids focusing on the woman villain and the lesbian billionaire kissing instead of on the pretty explosions frustrate your Joker--Bruce sees the whole shebang as missing the point.

I tried to contrast that a bit with the Capote book and the Tony Stark comment--she's either romanticized for being a woman villain or she's ridiculed--within her own world, mind. Our world romanticizes the Joker quite a lot, but that's a whole 'nother barrel of fish. Batman is one of the only people who gets that her sex doesn't actually matter, because she's a villain first. It's the "of course she's dangerous" thing. Does that make sense?

The Joker's function, in any universe, is to let him know what kind of man he really is.

*nods* That's it, really, in a nutshell. Damn. Didn't even need to write the fic, that says it. ; )

Now I need to go give you proper feedback, because I haven't even told you how completely and totally awesome I think Brenda Wayne is yet. And your fourth wall meta Joker. *glee*

Yeah, they just voted me Mayor of ramble city. *is shipped to Arkham*
