Last night Lizzie and I went to see Sugarcult at Avalon. It was a great show and I had a lot of fun. I enjoy watching bands and the audience. There were a lot of crazy heads there that night. The crowd covered all ranges from mom's watchin daughters, to older chicks with big boobs and fake lips trying to kick it with the band. So, after the show, Lizzie and I went to this sports pub and we sit down...no problem. Then we start listening to the people next to us and they are having a conversation about the Jewish Tradition. I kinda wanted to jump into the convo because a theological debate would have been fun but I didn't say anything because I know if I did, then Lizzie and I wouldn't have had a good time and we would have been there till 2am.
The guy sitting next to me started talking about how great beind Jewish is and how everything we have is owed to them and how all the other religions ape Judaism and how buddism isn't a real religion. All this pissed me off because for starters, he never once spoke of Ancient Persia or how the Romans influenced a lot of Jewish tradition.
Then the guy said he had a BA in history and how he studied philosophy. I started getting really mad because he was a poor historian! He was spouting propaganda and he was omitting whole parts of history! What a bad historian! Still, I held my tounge, I didn't want to tell him off and tell him that he was being a typical westerner believing that religion itself began with Judaism or that Judaism is the first monotheistic religion in the western world. It wasn't. the first was Zoroastrianism. We all know how much I love that stuff. So, yeah, this guy was not a good student of history. At the end of dinner though, Lizzie bumped their table and knocked all their stuff over so...they got theirs.
I just thought it was funny that I almost got into a barroom intellectual debate. I am sure I will have more chances to go into battle but last night, I had to hold my sword. I've used my sword many times to cut down ignorance...last night I just wanted to have a good time and not do battle. Well, that does it for that.
