Io, Kouros Most Great

Sep 06, 2007 23:05

hello, dear readers, and good evening. I thought an update was due, as so much has been happening here. . .chronologically, and probably most intriguing was and is, of course, the Priddy Trip.
Hail to King Elephant, where my identity (Tent in the Wind) and subsequent identity sent all into brief hysterics
Hail to the San Luis Valley, that unknown beauty of vast plain, yellow-white against the bruised stormy sky. The mountains too were lovely, all trails of rusty stone faces and gnarled oaks and pines. We could see storms raining on the other mountain range hours before they would arrive on our campsite at 9000 feet.
Hail to the bats, all 250,000 that plunge every night from the collapsed Iron mine near rocks that resemble Gondor. They are soon lost to the darkening sky, black dots fading with a whish of wings and the stray chirp.
Hail to Matatu (the Ugandan card game) and Obabali baliwa! To all the games and hot springing and trash-talking the fence with Lindsey
Hail to the fence, now pronghorn friendly.
And, of course, hail to the nudists - so resolute to maintain their utter contact with nature, they hiked in nought but boots and a walking stick, walked their dogs with no other clothing than the leash.

I finished "Agamemnon" about 45 minutes ago, but had to get online to read mythical context and plot summary both - that chorus of old Argosian men is a force to be reckoned with. It is a rich and complicated history of incest and deceit, love and lust and murder in the bath.
But class? It's great!!! The first true day of class (Tuesday) we took a break from discussing Jane Ellen Harrison's "Themis" and congregated on the lawn. We then processed up and down the field, leaping and shouting the first two lines from the "Hymn of the Kouretes" in Greek. Yesterday I had 207 pages of Aristotle and Plato to read, but through determination and dogged reading habits got through all of it by about 12:30. (from 12 noon, I took little more than an hour for lunch, an hour for supper, and 30 minutes for the audition)

So I auditioned for "Attempts on Her Life," a postmodern play of 17 unconnected scenes, all based loosely about someone named "Annie" I don't think I got a role, but here's hoping. Also, I've an audition for orchestra on 3:45 on Friday, so cross your fingers for me, eh? I have been practising, so perhapsibly I shall merit a standing in the ensemble.

I tried to make it to the 8 o'clock EQUAL meeting (a gay or questioning group), but after 15 minutes searching fruitlessly, being absolutely soaked in a lightning fury storm, I biked back home with a saturated sweatshirt for compensation. Mayhap 'tis a sign, though I hope not.

It's been great getting to know people here, not the least of all Caroline. Though we keep very different schedules, we get along quite well (hooray)! Besides ALL the people from our NSO trips (yes, I think you're all incredibly awesome!), it's neat hanging out with Alicia and Jeremiah, Lauren and Hana and Pidgeon. . .wow, it seems like I've actually made friends. yay.

Well, I'm off to read or sleep or daydream or nightdream. Take care, koibito, and all you others who could be reading this.
Love,
 ~ lix
