So i get off the T and walk in to the 7-11 at the bottom of the hill, and as i come out two twix's richer, i notice a younger black guy hanging out around the corner. He wasn't bumming change and so when he began to talk to me, I was open to listen. Basically, the dude was a drug dealer. At first it sounded like he need to get to Providence, but after a bit of walking around and a lot of fast talking, he wrote me a personal check for three hundred dollars, to deposit into my bank account via ATM. We withdrew the maximum one hundred dollars right away and I gave it to him. He promised me like a hundred bucks of my own after this was all done with, which of course I didn't believe, but I did think that he'd give me at least enough to buy some groceries with.
After I went up to John's house to wait an hour til our next "meeting," I felt like I was just duped out of a hundred bucks that I didn't even have, plus whatever fees my banks would charge me when the check bounced. But, alas, an hour later, there was someone waiting for me at the corner and it was a crackhead named Kiki. We tried to get out the other two hundred, even though I told her it wouldn't work until the check cleared. So, I was stressing over the whole thing, because I had no idea what was going to happen. But we deposited another check for three hundred dollars, whch made th whole ordeal even worse. But since I had already gotten involved, I didn't want to make this dude mad.
Anyway, a day later, I was waiting for the dude at the corner before I had to go to work. I was a bit late and he wasn't there, so I checked my account. T he check cleared. I was shocked. So I took out the two hundred, in case something went wrong and they took the money back, because at that point, I had myself convinced that the checks were just plain stolen. If someone wrote a bogus check and deposited it into an atm account, the bank would cash the check before the person ever knew about it.
I bought breakfast at 7-11, and took the bus to work, an unusual luxury for me. At lunch, I walked down to Newbury Pizza where they have Dr Pepper in the can, got two cans, two slices and ate my feast at the slab down the street. eating two meals and not having to walk to work just made my day. I was in the greatest mood.
So that afternoon, I met up with the guy again and I asked him for some of the money like he promised, so I could get something to eat. I gave him the two hundred, he gave me a twenty to go down and get him some dinner and let me have the change. Fourteen fuckin' bucks.
Then two days later, when I checked to see if the second check went through, I found out that my ATM card had since been deactivated.
Lucky me.
Its only a matter of time before I get locked up again. This time for check fraud.
