I've seen that book around, I'll definitely have to check it out now.

I think sex can be powerful, and I also think money can be powerful, so I don't completely object to stripping. The jury is out on that one for me. But this situation was so different because it was expected that we would all go along with it, it was very strange. It was weird seeing a woman's sexuality used as a party trick. Definitely bizarre. If it was all men, thats one thing, but this was a mixed party...

As for "if its the woman with the power, why does the man hold the money?" I can see this two ways, one way I see a mutual exchange of power...the other way I see the objectification of a sex for some cash. I'm still thinking about that one too! [Or even, the pathetic male buying what he can't get. There's several ways to look at it, and some men are ALWAYS going to buy sex]

Jeez, I would like to say that most strip club patrons are aware it's an illusion [as well as pornography] but I'm not sure, I've been around men who will say, 'well I saw it in a porn, so females must like it' or guys talking about how much their stripper likes them. Which is complete bullshit, but then isn't that a little pathetic on the males part that they bought into it so easily? Yet even more depressing because then women learn they're supposed to like it, like you mentioned.

And yeah that sentence was definitely thrown in to showcase how absurd it was. Yet, that was precisely what he was saying! It was so odd. It was almost like he was denying his own male sexuality, but that's another topic all together.

I feel like women are being trained into liking what men like, and we're growing increasingly and increasingly okay with all of it (stripclubs, porn, etc.).

I definitely agree with this to an extent. Looking back now there have been several times in my life where I did something sexual or acted in a certain way for my partners pleasure and not mine at all, yet he never did the same. Because it was expected that I enjoyed it too, or that I got pleasure out of pleasing him [and that was enough]. I think women in general need to not be afraid to demand more and expect more. However, I also watched porn and became interested in stripping way before any man could influence me that way [although I suppose you could argue society influenced me]. Nowadays, I'm anti-mainstream porn, but pro-feminist friendly porn. I don't see anything wrong with porn in general, as long as both parties are ACTUALLY having fun.

Thank you for your reply! Do you post in your LJ ever about gender related issues? I'm always looking to add people who do :]
