well, sort of. If you surround yourself with fun people it can really be fun. but if you get in the popular crowd it's usually just too political. but, the sca is wonderful if you find activities you enjoy doing, and usually, everyone there is extremely supportive of everything that everyone does. but im that artsy-fartsy type, i guess...
those "right" people i was talking about are the ones that aren't concerned with period clothing and are just there to have fun. i've met so many nice people, but i've also met just as many mean people.
well then I'm not sure what you mean.. isn't the point of the SCA to re-create the middle ages? this includes primarily period clothing, otherwise you are just camping. these events are made to be fun, but if you aren't going to fully participate and wear the right clothing and stray from mundane activities, then shouldn't people just do something non-sca related? I agree that there are many people who take it too seriously and come off really harsh about it, but I really think its out of frustration at the amount of people who just think its an excuse to get drunk in a park.
i'm talking about the people that are sooo into it that they forget that it's the year 2005 and some things can't be helped. like when i went to gulf wars last year. i was eating lunch, and decided to use my cell phone to check on my then 2 month old daughter. some old woman came by and was like "is that a period talking device young lady?" i could understand if i was completely going off course and wearing outrageous pimped out bellydance clothes, but i was just making a short call to check on my newborn daughter. hell, this year, i saw someone in the middle eastern tent playing music from her laptop! and nobody said anything!
agh i know what you mean. that's why my household works really hard to hide that stuff, i.e. use the cell phone inside the pavilion, instead of the middle of the war. some people come across bitchy.
