Every once in a while, Selina Kyle liked to ditch her Catwoman costume and duties and go dancing in the clubs. It was more than the pulsing beat of the music and crowd that drew her. It was the chance to forget her mission in life, to protect herself and all the world's cats, and the chaos, stress, and sadness that too often accompanied it. She liked to forget who she was for just a few minutes and pretend that she was some one else, some one who truly had no cares and no one, not even herself to whom to answer, a silly, little girl with fluff for brains.

It surely was not who she was, but that was the key. She wanted to be some one else for a change. She wanted to see how the other life lived, the careless ones who danced from guy to guy, never trying to make their own way in the cruel and hard world. She wanted to forget that she was the only one fighting for her survival, and that of her children. She wanted to be normal, if just for a few hours.

Yet, even when she tried her best not to be Catwoman, it always seemed that there was a reminder to be had of the path she had been given in life, of the role that fate or destiny or perhaps just having a heart that was secretly a little soft had given her. Sometimes, it was a stray kitten in an alley, or a cat about to be run over in the highway. Too often, it was a little feline being mistreated by a heartless human soon to die on Catwoman's claws.

Sometimes, like tonight, it was a face she had known for years, a face that haunted her dreams and which she would never forget. "Brrruce," she purred, sashaying up to him. She took a sip of her catnip-laced drink as her eyes raked him up and down. He wasn't the Bat tonight but just the millionaire playboy -- a playboy whom she always wanted as her plaything. "Nothing better to do tonight?"

He reached out, took her drink from her hand, set it on a passing tray, and took her hand back into his. Her heart raced at his warm touch and sped even faster as he smiled. "No," he confirmed, pulling her into a dance close against him. Only they could hear her purr as they danced together, both wishing the night could last forever.

But then, as it always happened whenever they managed to steal a moment together out of costume, trouble arose. Joker and his gang interrupted the party. Bruce had to leave; after only a moment's hesitation, Selina joined him. Scant minutes later, however, as they fought together, Catwoman admitted silently, with a mischievous sparkle in her happy, emerald eyes and a sly crack of her whip, that she still loved dancing beside her man, rather it was in or out of costume.
