Bruce laid there in the darkness, unable to move. He didn’t know how badly his back was damaged but the fact he couldn’t even wiggle a toe wasn’t a good sign. Bane had left him in the Doldrums, so he could suffer and watch his city burn. Something that was worse than death itself, especially to the man who dedicated his life to defending Gotham.

The news network didn’t stop covering the chaos that was going on in Gotham. The bridges were all taken out, the bomb was in the hands of a madman and the people were deserted. It was a nightmare and there was nothing Bruce could do to wake up.

“It’s getting pretty ugly over there, isn’t it Mr. Wayne?” a voice suddenly called out from the darkness.

“Who is that?” Bruce called out.

“And by ugly, I mean bowling shoe ugly.” After making the glib remark, a howling laughter echoed throughout the cave.

“This isn’t real.” Bruce said as he closed his eyes.

“Probably not, rich boy.” the voice called from the back of his cell. “But that doesn’t change the fact that I was right.”

“No.”

“Everyone is capable of going mad.”

“No!”

“All they needed was just a little ... push.”

“No!! You’re not real!”

“Forget Gotham, look at how everyone is losing their friggin’ mind!” the voice snapped back at him. “They’re ready to cut the city loose just in the hopes that Bane blows himself up with the city. They’re willing to sacrifice all of Gotham just to make sure that’s where it all ends. I don’t know about you Brucey, but that’s pretty sick. And I thought my jokes were bad...”

“You’re not real.”

“The most delicious part of it, Mr. Wayne… is that it’s all your fault.”

“No!”

”Oh yeah, this is all on you boy wonder.”

“No!”

“Aren’t you the one who killed Ra’s Ah Ghul?”

“No!”

“No use denying it. You chose to save me but you refused to save the man who gave you the means to be the Bat? When you look at it like that, it’s pretty fraking crazy and trust me... I know crazy.”

“No!”

“Ring! Ring! Hello, is denial there?”

“You’re not real!”

“The truth hurts, like a splinter in your foot. Inching even after you’ve pulled it out, it stays with you... like your past.”

“Get away from me!”

“I thought I wasn’t real, Mr. Wayne?”

“Leave me alone!”

”Real chaos, Mr. Wayne, doesn’t have be a super bomb or even a stick of dynamite. Facing real madness has an effect on normal people as something always stick in their subconscious, waiting. Then one day when they’re suffering, in pain, pumped up on a crap load of medication ... then he’ll strike. Bringing more fear to the table than your fragile little noodle can handle.”

“No!”

Suddenly the Joker walks out from the shadows. “Real or not, we’re going to have a little fun. Hehehehe...”

”NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!”
