Bane had been so eager to finally confront the Dark Knight, he missed the subtle differences when breaking into Wayne Manor.

That was his undoing.

Bane had patiently waited to extract his revenge. He had underestimated the Batman before, thinking that breaking his back was enough to end him. He was wrong. Batman not only returned but regained control of his city and ended his reign of terror.

Bane broke out of Arkham only hours before reaching Wayne Manor. He kept Batman's big secret so that nobody would try to steal his vengeance. The big man arrived as soon as possible, hoping that he would get there before his absence was noticed.

He snuck into the manor like he did before but this time it was empty. Bane had juiced up as much as he could without causing cardiac arrest, almost tripling the size he was the night he broke Batman’s back. This time, he intended to do what he should have done the first time: kill the bat.

The cave was also empty. Bane was worried Batman might be notified by the police about his escape but his decoy had yet to be been discovered when the bat returned. Thinking he had the jump on him, Bane came out of nowhere and tried to surprise him with a punch to the side of Batman’s face. When Bane missed and hit nothing but air, this is when he began to suspect something was wrong.

Rather than shake with fear like the first time Bane had attacked the cave, Batman instead did something unexpected: he smirked. He was without fear.

“What’s so funny?” Bane roared, upset the man wasn’t even scared of him.

“You are.” The masked man replied. “Well, your timing that is.”

“Nothing can save you this time!” Bane said as he tried to attack the Batman again.

Batman caught Banes punch with a single hand, barely flinching. Bane couldn’t believe his strength, and before he could understand what was going on, Batman flexed his fingers, crushing Banes hand and even breaking a few fingers.

Bane’s hand hurt so much, he dropped to one knee. He looked up at the masked man finally aware of the mistake he had made. “Who are you?”

“As you can tell.” Batman said without letting go of his hand. “Appearances can be deceiving.”

“Where is Bruce Wayne?” Bane asked while trying to unsuccessfully free his hand.

“He took the week off.” Batman answered as he took off the cowl to reveal himself. “Of all the days for you to break into his cave, you had to do it on my watch.”

It took a second to recognize the man who was posing as Batman, but it was then Bane’s turn to be afraid. “Superman?”

“The one and only.” Clark replied.

“Damn.” Bane cussed.

“My point exactly.” Clark replied as he couldn’t help but chuckle at the big man’s bad luck. He rolled his other hand into a tightly clinched fist. “Say good-night, Gracie.”
