Title: Lay Out Universe: Nolanverse Genre: Contemplative? Is that a genre? Rating: PG Characters: Batman Word Count: 717 Warnings: None, story takes place soon after Batman Begins Summary: Before the hard work, there's the even harder work.
I think I've heard Introspective listed as a genre before for fanfics; also a character vignette fits the piece nicely. I liked the reference to Pollock--Bruce is putting together quite a colorful map indeed! I'm impressed with the amount of thought he--and you--put into it. :)
Ah, introspective works for me! Character for sure.
Thank you--I was trying to put myself in his boots and think about what I would want to know when trying to control an area, and I didn't want to just use colored pins/flags; there are ways to be more creative! Color coding is definitely key.
I really like the idea of this layered map on the wall with strings running between pins, and entire areas sectioned off for one reason or another. I like to think he does it on an actual wall before translating it into GPS or something. It reminds me of Question's office in Justice League. :D
It's interesting because the idea of the Narrows being a war ground is implied in the first film especially, but I don't think anyone ever really mentioned it. Though it's been a while since I've seen it (I plan to remedy that before TDKR comes out). The image of Bruce standing in front of this layered map though figuring out routes and dangers really makes me think of The Dark Knight Returns too, which is pretty darn cool. Nolan has taken so much inspiration for these films. Thanks for such a thought-provoking piece!
I meant to add in a line about how he was going to enter everything into a computer, but I forgot. But if he's anything like me he'll find it easier to first just see it all laid out at once, knowing he put it all together, before letting a machine take over.
The Narrows was just such an integral character in BB, and it seemed like such a miserable place to be. If it wasn't a war ground before, letting loose a bunch of insane people that are then doped up on a toxin is surely going to create one! I don't know if we even see the Narrows in TDK, it's been so long since I've seen it.
I'm glad you liked this so much; I had fun with it! Thanks for reading and commenting!
