Things here are still going swimmingly. Well, 90% swimmingly. But this post is about the 90%, not the 10% that's less-than-ideal.
*Work is BUSY. It's been years since I've felt so consistently busy - and CHALLENGED - at work. I *like* it. I do, however, need to make sure to build in space for me to think and learn and read. It's an important part of my job, and I haven't been good about carving out that time in my schedule.
*My social life is so very good - I have yet to go drinking with people from work, which I see as a very good thing. I am going out with a few people tomorrow, but I've already hit the three month mark. Work-friendships are moving ahead, but slowly, and I like the glacial pace. I'm so glad I took the time to suss things out and hang back before figuring out who my friends will be. I am mostly hanging out with three women, but we're making an effort to expand that circle, and I'm trying to do a better job reaching out to my friends in the area who don't live in my immediate neighborhood. All in all, very good and positive.
*I'm starting to feel... creative? Inspired? A craving to do... more. I've signed up for the GRE, I've started practicing my French grammar again, I'm trying (though so far not succeeding) to read more - work has been so hectic that, unfortunately, TV is still my default when I get a spare few minutes. Next weekend I'm carving out a day to myself in the park (weather permitting) to have a little personal retreat and let the ideas flow about how I want to spend my free time here in DC. Volunteering? Reading? Trying to write? Developing a hobby? And looking at how I can do all of that and get better about working exercise and cooking into my routine.
*This weekend I'm taking my three best DC friends to C'ville for a girls weekend. We're going to hang out in beautiful spaces and have some wine and... relax. Next weekend I'm going to get my apartment in order on Saturday, babysit my ph'nieces on Saturday night, and have my personal retreat on Sunday. The weekend after that is Labor Day weekend and I'm still trying to figure out what to do that weekend. The following weekend is my CH girls weekend, and then I go to Chicago. After Chicago is probably Canada and then maybe Uganda. It's a busy month or two!
