a hallmark of wonderful disappointment

i can't even think how many years it's been since i've been giddy before a show... tonight i was actually shaking when i walked in the door.

New Model Army's first full-band electric set in a decade or so, with the World/Inferno Friendship Society (who generally send me out of a show shaking) as the only opening act...

the venue has a 2am license, but even with Cambridge 1am restrictions on a sunday i would've still expected things to run past midnight.

W/IFS started right at 9pm and was given an almost 40min set... disappointing, but it's because NMA is going to get a 2hr+ set, right?

NMA played barely 1.5hrs - heavily leaning towards Eight/Strange Brotherhood - with a whopping two song encore... the house lights went on at about midnight.

while every track NMA played was everything i would've expected & more, it seemed like a lot was missing - particularly with all the time to spare. and if that's all they were going to play, W/IFS should've been given the one extra song they'd asked for, instead of being forced to use it as an encore.

i've always considered the Middle East one of - if not the - best independent venues in boston, but i'm really wondering what was up with the scheduling for tonight.

gripes aside, is anyone else interested in hitting the brooklyn show on thursday?
