I Hear That Train A-Comin'....

Tonight at Midnight, July 4th once again visits us. Here in New Boston, that means one thing: The Train Whistle....

It is a custom for a group of very drunk men to mount an old train whistle to the back of their truck and go down every street and road of the town, blowing the whistle continuously for hours. At first, the cops went after them, but now they turn a blind eye. The hope is that the whistle goes by your house fairly early so you can get a good night's sleep. I mean, you can hear it at times when it is far away, but when it goes by your house, you really hear it.

The other new custom that has started up the past year or so are the cannons. Guys make homemade cannons, put them on the trucks and shoot them off all night long. The cops do try to find them, but the Cannon Boys use Nextel phones to keep one step ahead of the cops. At times, it sounds like Omaha Beach around here. I've already heard a few going off as they are testing them out.

Should be a fun night.....
