Not because...

... it's the popular thing to do. It's the -right- thing to do. If that were the only reason, I don't think I'd be posting this. In fact, I had pretty much steadfastly ignored the bandwagon of posting the "Marriage is Love" banner; I had no desire to trivialize something I feel very strongly about and put it on a level of a meme.

People have been slamming Rosie O'Donnell for wanting to marry her girlfriend in San Francisco this week. Frankly, I think it's remarkably courageous that she is taking her "celebrity" stature and adding it to the everyman's voice by standing up for this. Good for her-- good for them! I wish them a long and happy marriage.

This morning, the radio announcer reading the morning news mentioned that a small town 75 miles outside of New York City is joining San Francisco in legalizing same-gender marriages. I'm proud of NY for joining in this fight by opening up the availability of gay/lesbian marriages in this state, even if the state later voids them. People who love each other and want to be bound together in such a fashion should honored and not discriminated against, no matter the gender of the participants. Love is love. If you really love someone, heart and soul, the body is just a shell that houses them and the gender of that shell is utterly meaningless.

Marriage is love.
