It's amazing the differing reactions you get when you ask if something's made with meat or meat products. It's also amazing... well, no. Not really. Most people that work in fast food have no idea what's in the stuff they make. And for the record, Popeye's Red Beans and Rice? No vegetarian safe.
No, I'm not a strict, die hard vegan. I've decided that I need to start keeping track of the crap that passes through my lips in the direction of my stomach because I don't like several things about myself, and this is one that I have easy control over. I've decided to try Ovo-Lacto-Vegetarianism.
I chose that particular type of diet because to restrict myself further would be to cut down the already limited selection of food possibilities to an almost unlivable selection. I can eat just fine for the few days I'm at home, but while I'm on the road I'm limited to places with truck parking and many Vegetarians/Vegans don't like trucks as is, they're CERTAINLY not going to like me shoving 70 feet of vehicle in the space you could get at least 10-15 Smart Cars and Priuses. Priusii? Anyway...
With the exception of one error at Popeyes, I've managed to restrain myself thus far and with the discovery via
Vegetarian-Restaurants.net that Taco Bell's beans are not only Vegan safe (and thus Vegetarian safe) but can also be substituted for the beef on most dishes, it will greatly increase the variety in my diet. The pre-packaged Indian food I have is delicious, but better over rice and white rice can be a bit difficult to find on the road. And really expensive.
At least my loaner truck has a fridge and now that I've got it working, I can bring rice out from home when I get there as well as have a reason to keep this truck.
