Well it's official....

I've been officially diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum. They don't quite know where exactly so I'm going to have to come in for a third time to get a whole bunch of tests. The also what to do something called neuro-psychology, and give me a MRI and bloodwork so they can test to see if I have any other genetic anomolys. They also want me to ( Read more... )

How is Asperger's different to Autism.

There tend to be levels of Autism, ranging from High functioning, which I possibly might be, to low functioning, which can be someone who doesn't communicate at all.

I'm afraid my knowledge isn't that extensive, the one difference I am aware of is that as far as I know, with Aspergers you start talking, reading, etc really earlier, while with Autism most of the time there tends to be a delay in speech.

As for me I have hyper sensitivity, poor social skills (I mean painfully poor, almost non existant. Put it this way, I'm 25 I have had one friend and never had a relationship and am very unlikely to ever have one, which I don't have that much of an issue with) I have real problems with sarcasm, innuendo, reading between the lines. I find I am almost incapable of lying or detecting lies. I tend to have problems with tone, I can come across as being mono tone or giving of the wrong tone when I don't mean to (sound like I'm accusing, for example, when I'm just genuinely curious), and with detecting tone.

I have obsessive interest that I tend to talk about non stop and don't understand when people try to tell me they are not interested.

I have problems with being touched, and touching other people.

Well I can't say whether you have it or not, as I'm not qualified, nor do I know your entire personal history.

But I have noticed a corrolation between Sci-fi lovers and Autistic traits.

If you'd like to know more, Wiki is a good source, just type in Asperger Syndrome.

You sound like a more extreme version of me, and I am only borderline Aspergers Syndrome, so I would very much think that you have Aspergers as opposed to full autism.

Yeah, that's what I think, but obviously they aren't yet sure, and since they are the experts I'm going to wait until I have confirmation.

Someone on the Aspergers LJ community said that since I haven't been given a pin for where I am on the spectrum I should just say for the moment I am a high functioning autistic, whick ultimately Aspergers is a form of.
