goodnight sweet Shadow, good night
He was helped by R into the world at 2:00am in July 1994. He crossed the rainbow bridge today at 3:02pm.
He was the best trained dog I ever met. He would fetch, leap and hunt with great abandon and joy.
A few years ago he was t-boned by another dog running full tilt into his side - and that was the beginning of the end. Something happened in Shadow's spine and over the last few years his hips gradually stopped working. Every year we were amazed that he made it to the next spring and he bounced back as best he could.
I will post my favourite photo of him later tonight- he is standing on a hill at my mother's house in the country, just after going for a swim to chase some ducks. Too funny :)
R and I wouldn't be together today if it weren't for the big hairy beast. But that's another story.
